  1. Keeping fingers crossed for everyone 🤞 Looks like a bunch of us are due to receive it Wed. Guess that guy taking a long smoke break must have gone back to work. 🥴 🤪 Like the Romans use to say, Let the games begin 😬
  2. I keep reading on Facebook forums about other people wondering when they will ship it, I have mine in Processing for 5 days now waiting for fulfillment. Money taken from my Bank for it too. What happened? Did Vive drop the ball when it comes to shipping? I am starting to think there is one guy boxing and shipping the Headsets and this one guy is now taking a long smoke break 😐
  3. Your link has quite a lot to view, This will keep me busy for awhile. Thank you very much :)
  4. Thank you for the two video links, I love learning all about this, I feel like a dry sponge ready to soak all this up. Again, Thank you
  5. Thank you very much. I understand some of what you have explained, I will look up the rest as to understand better. I am always curious as to how something works and I was really curious about the Vive lens and figured there was a really good reason. The creators of the Vive really did their homework in their design of the Vive. I am so happy when the time came to purchase a VR Headset that my choice was HTC Vive. Thank you both for your time.
  6. I would like to understand why Fresnel lenses are used in Vive Headsets. What was the reason for deciding to use Fresnel Lens in the production of the Vive. I have a little bit of understanding when it comes to lens because of my background in what is called Lythography and my knowlege of making Holigrams with laser way back in the day before VR was around. I am just curious about what was the thought that when into this and why Fresnel. Any Feedback would be most welcome. Thanks
  7. Vibrant Nebula is correct, They just come with earbuds but the Vive store in the accesorys section has a nice setup, head strap with built in headphones. I plan to get myself one but in the mean time, I just purchased some headphones, Earbuds work fine but I prefer headphones.
  8. I have been doing a little internet reading about Lens replacement and a lot of people do not like the Fresnel lens in Vibes headsets and switch them out for the other type. I just dont know. I only know what I have read and the other type run about 50 dollars. Some people are changing them out who dont even need to. I read a few post at Steam about this. Anyway, Here is another link about getting to the lens in a Vive Headset. To be honest, I just dont know enough about the other type and how well they work. By the way, Pretty cool nickname you picked out, Makes me laugh. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/HTC+Vive+Lens+Replacement/98127
  9. If that link does not work thy this one, https://www.mytoytruck.com/products/hyperkin-vr-lens-protector-for-htc-vive-pro-2-set-pc
  10. Please do keep me updated, I am very curious as to what it turns out to be. I though maybe a scratch on the lens, I wear glasses and I worry about that. I found something that might help me with that worry. If that is what it turns out to be. Once you get it fixed, You might consider getting something I plan to get to help with that worry. I am posting a link to what I found to protect the lens, Here is the link, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hyperkin-VR-Lens-Protector-for-HTC-Vive-2-Set/323711080547
  11. Curious, Why would you want to leave it on for so long?
  12. The HTC Vive uses a Fresnel lens, What I know about Fresnel lens is they can produce heat. They have tiny ridges at least on one side and can scratch easly and cause permant damage so you have to be very careful with them, I have never really looked to see if the ridges are actually inside of the lens glass or outside on one side. I would guess if it is on the outside, It would be the side that you can not touch and would have to open the Vive to clean it. My knowlege is somewhat limited about Fresnel lens but I do know this, A company I use to purchase lasers from to make holigrams sold sheet of glass that was Fresnel and they got hot enough to bake a potato out in the sun because of those little lines in the glass. I believe that is why the headset warms up the way it does. You have to watch for that and be careful not to damage those little ridges. I was just sugesting that opening it up may be a way to view and clean the lens and perhaps inspect it closely. Before you go as far as replacing the lens, I would contact support one on one through their live chat. If the lens is the problem, They do not cost much at least the ones I have found. I would suggest if lens replacement is required, I wouild stay with the same type (Fresnel) but from what I have read on the internet, Other types can be made to work. If this was me and I had this problem, This is the path I would take. Cleaning it first to try to solve the problem is the way I would go. If that did not work, I would make sure that it is a lens problem before I purchased some replacement and to me that is what it looks like. Your problem is fixable. It is just like anything else, You just have to narrow down the problem and go from there. I prefer to start with the easest and cheaper way and work my way up from there until it is solved. If you do take it apart, be very careful, Take notes if needed so it can go back together the correct way.
  13. If that turns out to be the problem and you can not seem to get it all out of the Headset, I have two links that can show you how to take it apart, First link is just a real quick showing but second link is very detailed. Keep in mind, I would not touch a lens with my fingers, You skin has oils that can do harm if not careful and since the headset heats up, it can bake those oils on the lens. I know that sounds weird but it is true. I know, I studyed what is called Lythography in college. Anyway, Here is the two links. https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/HTC+Vive+Teardown/62213
  14. Might be a good idea to unplug it too before you blow it out. Make sure it is not warm, sometimes that compress air can be cold and dont want to crack the lens by spraying cold air on a warm lens.
  15. Not sure but It might be some dust of fibers from something has contamated your headset. This is just a guess. I have a suggestion, Get a can of compressed air and blow it out real good, Make sure to blow out the area where the wires enter the headset too, Thinking something might of entered in that way too. I might be wrong about all of this but that is what it looks like to me. Something on the lens on the inside of the lens or outside of the lense. I would consider giving that a try.
  16. Maybe I think about this wrong but I thought everything had to be up and running for the lasers to operate. Perhaps it is a wiring problem but for the lasers to go out would mean they are cheap lasers used in the creation of the Base's. Perhaps I am wrong, who knows, Keep us updated please
  17. When I received my Vive system for the first time, After setting it all up, I noticed two things. After I shut down my Vive system, I noticed a light was still turned on my Headset but every other part of it was turned off. This told me electrical power was still running to it even after it was turned off, It also stayed just a little warm, Second thing I noticed was my sound from my computer was still routed to the Headset. I would have to manualy change my computer sound setting to solve this. But I found another way to solve this. I purchase a Surge protector strip (Just for the Vive Headset and nothing else). After I am done using my Headset and I shut it down for the day, I will just turn off the power to the surge protector. No need to unplug anything. No longer a little light on the headset. Also no more sound from the computer running to it and the computer set my sound setting back to the way they were on it's own. No need to mess around with the computer adjusting my sound setting back to the way they were. Anyway, I did this with both base's too just to disable power and perhaps allow my Vive equipment to have a longer life span. Perhaps this might be of some help to you. Just my 2 cent's worth. :)
  18. There is something you can try. If you have a dead base station it will not hurt to try. This fixed mine and mine was brend new, It was dead, I will copy and paste what I was told that fixed mine but you have to read it carefully and follow the instructions to the letter. Here they are, Good Luck, Please note that you should only do this is your base station does not work at all. Although this should be harmless there is a non-zero chance that it could make things worse. First of all you will need to locate 2 files in SteamVR. Easiest way to locate this is right click SteamVR in your library, click Properties, Local Files, Browse Local Files. From there go to tools\lighthouse\firmware\lighthouse_tx\archive\htc_2.0 The 2 files we need are "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-calibration-rescue-244.bin" and "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12.bin" Step 1: With the base station un-powered, connect your station through Micro-B USB Cable to your PC Step 2: Hold down the mode button and plug in the power cable to the station Step 3: Once your PC has detected the station as a USB Mass Storage Device you can release the mode button Step 4: The station should be called "CRP_DISABLED" and contain one file "firmware.bin", delete that file Step 5: Copy over the file "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-calibration-rescue-244.bin" onto the drive Step 6: Once the file has copied over, pull out the power lead Step 7: Wait a few seconds and plug in the power again (DO NOT hold down the mode button this time) Step 8: Within a few seconds the base station should rapidly flash green or red. If it's green please skip to step 10. Step 9: If it is flashing red it means it could not be automatically fixed if so you will then need to contact VIVE directly for them to book the base station in for repair https://www.vive.com/support/ Step 10: Unplug the power cable again Step 11: Repeat steps 1 thru 7 but now instead copy the "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12" file instead Step 12: The base station should now be working again. Confirm it by setting it's mode to A and tracking with it alone (the other base turned off) After that you can either switch back the bases modes to A and B for cabled sync or B and C for wireless sync.
  19. For me, It took a few days for my order to be filled. Then shipping was fast. They shipped it FedEx. They will send you an email with all shipping info with tracking number. When you get your Tracking number, Then you will know what day to expect it. If it looks like you will not be there. FedEx has the option for you to have them hold it until you can come pick it up. (It will require you to sign for it) They ship ship it with signature required for delivery. I ordered mine on a Thursday and receive it on a Monday, I had to deal with a weekend, You dont so that is good. I hope this info helps
