  1. Hi All. I seems to have another yet error 200 HMD not found. This is about the fourth cable, HMD works fine with wireless adapter but not the link Box and yeah the link box light is green. I'm always so careful because this has happened so may times before but the design on the cable is really poor. I have another HMD a Samsung from before this one (4 years ago) and the cable has never broken probably because the outer casing is hard plastic instead of the Soft one on the Cosmos. In any case I contacted support who said sorry mate your out of warranty after three years so cough up another $120 bucks for yet another cable. I asked if he would take all my other cables as a trade in but he said no and I can understand why, they are of poor design and break easily lol. In any case I think I'm done spending more more money on a bad design even if it is only $120 this as I have said is the 4th one. Vive may have lost a customer who has spent thousands on their devices and Viveport but at least they have saved themselves $120 (I'm sure they make them for a quarter of that price) and going forward you can't fault a company for making such forward looking support policy decisions after all customers are a dime a dozen. I don't think I will be investing more money on the new devices if Vive put the cost of poorly designed components on their customers and do not admit their fault it doesn't inspire confidence going forward on any newer products for sure time to try something else. BTW thanks CT for you assistance over the years and good luck. Cheers Fink. Iith
  2. Hi all. Can anyone recommend a good long lasting third party battery for the Wireless adapter? I know that the Anker battery has previously been mentioned but when I search on Amazon I only get 20 watt results but no 21 watt batteries. If you know of one can you please mention the model or part number I've have the recommended HTC or Lucent Trans bought off this website but it only goes for about a hour before it starts having issues which isn't long enough of course. Any help would be appreciated my headset cable has broken yet again (always happens around Xmas for some reason and I mostly play sitting down) and this will be the third or is it the fourth one and in Aus they cost $120 a piece an it is now getting too expensive to keep replacing them. Cheers! Fink.
  3. Have you tried temporarily setting up in a different room to see if it occurs elsewhere? If it doesn't then the lighthouses might be getting reflections or obstructions from some object(s) in the room e.g. mirrors, reflective windows and blinds, ceiling fans are a bad one or even chairs. Fink.
  4. Sounds like your cable may be broken or not connected properly. Can you try it with a wireless adaptor if you have one or another cable if you know someone else with a Vive Cosmos HMD? Fink
  5. Hi Mate. I'm using a Elite configuration with Index controllers as well and Win11. I wanted to see how things would run on Win11 (I have other machines running Win10) and apart from this it's pretty good so far so hopefully it will get resolved in short order. I'm just wondering what games you are playing that have the issue for example I get the issue on Fallout 4Vr and Skyrim VR but not Vtol VR or Space Engine I haven't had time to play much lately so that's all I've tried so far. Cheers Fink!
  6. Hi @C.T. Sorry about the delay had a cable issue all sorted now. Did as you suggested and now everything is working fine. Thanks for your help. Cheers! Fink
  7. Hi @C.T. thanks for having a look. I just tried it and still no zoom function. I'm just using the basic Cosmos faceplate and controllers to test. I made sure the controller bindings were on the Vive default settings. I have to use the wireless setup because I seem to have a cable issue and I'm waiting on a replacement but I'm sure that isn't relevant to this function. Cheers! Fink.
  8. Hi again. My beta install wants to update again after it has already updated to the latest version. Is that a file permissions thing or maybe a registry issue? I don't dare update again as the last time I was out of action on both public and beta branches for a week. It's not a bit issue but suggestions? Thanks Fink.
  9. Hi there I had a few anomalies e.g. headset not detected and some bizarre visuals during and after install. I think it just needed to complete one process before the other would finish properly in any case I waited and updated Viveport and then Steam VR to the latest releases and restarted. So now it all seems to have settled down and I can load most stuff but I still get a crash if I shake my head, it just drops me out and says it can't detect the headset. Checked the cable which is in firmly and if you just restart without doing anything it loads again just fine but still prone to crashing if I do the same head shake. I noticed something similar for a while if I shook my head from side to side (or just rapid movement the IPD adjustment activates by itself (which seems over sensitive)maybe a faulty switch but I have seen posts saying moving your head from side to side can cause issues so not sure if it is software or hardware didn't happen often. I was using the base Cosmos setup I'll try the Elite setup which I get some time later in the day (work interferes with everything) and see how it goes. Cheers! Fink.
  10. Hi C.T. While you're at it could you please fix the zoom function for the Desktop browser in the Lens? It stopped working and is a bit on the large side and too close for comfort @-@ Thanks, Fink
  11. Hi. I just had a similar problem the system has been working well since day one and then suddenly I got the "headset not detected" error, red light on the HMD etc. It hung for a while so I powered it off and on restart I told me that there was a failed firmware update (I didn't do or accept any) it must have tried to do a update of some sort in the background but I was on the beta and there is no new update? I tried everything I could for a week including reinstalling everything and reverting to a earlier Windows restore point before the issue all of which didn't do anything and then them dammed thing just started working one morning when I booted it up to get some info for @C.T. who kindly offered to look into the issue. At this stage I was back on the Public version of the software. When I loaded the Beta software it still works perfectly but asks me to to load a new update every time I turn load the console but of course there is no new update so I just say no and it continues on. We'll see what happens when there is actually a new version of the software if I can access it or not but it works for now using the basic Cosmos, the Elite faceplate and also Wireless. I honestly don't know what caused it but one clue was when ran the setup it couldn't detect my USB 3.X ports and I have 4 on this machine it said to work correctly I had to connect to USB 3.X and it also couldn't detect the video port at all. The device manager showed that they were all working. Speculation is useless without data but it does indicate why the software couldn't find the HMD just not why it couldn't detect the ports, maybe a Windows or Steam update or a corrupt registry entry who knows. All I can say is that I'm glad it wasn't a cable or other hardware error which I was starting to think it was so all I can say it keep trying and it might untangle itself. Regards Fink.
  12. Hi C.T. I submitted this on Saturday (Sydney time) but I have since reinstalled the software to try (unsuccessfully) resolve the issue I don't know if that is relevant. Trace No: 20210320064800 Fink,.
  13. Unfortunately I only have a laptop without a display port maybe I could buy a adaptor to check. No the light doesn't go out at the time of the update. Any hint of what to look for in the log files?
  14. Yep Fink does for sure thanks for the feedback it tells me what I need to know it looks like I have a faulty unit in need of repair. Cheers Fink.
  15. Hi again. I replaced all the cables with the ones from the Wireless adaptor and it still gets stuck on 63%. The update appears to be the problem as I deleted and reinstalled all the software thinking that would get around this wanting to update issue but it still persists at the same point every time. You would think installing from scratch would download the latest version of the software negating the requirement to update the software so looks like a install script maybe be stuck in a loop. I also tried just using the wireless adaptor configuration and it stops at the same point. Anyone know of a way to factory reset the HMD? Fink.
  16. Hi all. Anyone else get a notification for a new update on the Beta release version 1.0.14.1? I turned on my headset and base station but the base stations didn't initialise in Steam VR. There was no actual notification of a update at this point so I restarted the Vive console and again it still didn't initialise the base stations and the screen on the HMD was blank so I restarted the PC (still no message about a update). On the next start up it said a update had been interrupted and would I like to update now which I did and after about 65% it fails with a 102 error update failed. Tried a few more times same thing so I went back to the stable release and after it loaded it came up with the same message that there was a interrupted update and do I want to load it. Tried again but same story and if I say no to the update it just gives the error 200 HMD not found. Maybe it's something on my PC or a corrupt script so I'm going to delete all the software and download and reinstall again (bummer I just did this 3 weeks or so ago) and see how that goes. Watch out for sneaky installs though 😉 Cheers Fink.
  17. That's pretty harsh people. Just because you already know the answer, and I'm sure you were new to a lot of things at some time and had to ask for help to find your way around, after all isn't that what this and other forums are all about, helping each other find answers? In answer to your question @Saltgrass the answer is no and a place to find the info is on the main Vive Webpage under products\ accessories\vive Cosmos controllers https://www.vive.com/au/accessory/cosmos-controller-left/ it says: *Not compatible with the following products:HTC VIVEVIVE Pro SeriesVIVE Pro Eye SeriesVIVE Cosmos Elite I hope this helps you and don't be shy to come here asking questions someone will usually try to answer you. Cheers! Fink. Quotation from Carl Sagan, in his work The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark said: "There are naive questions, tedious questions, ill-phrased questions, questions put after inadequate self-criticism. But every question is a cry to understand the world. There is no such thing as a dumb question".
  18. It's working now (maybe I didn't hit the button fast enough) but every time the Steam window pops up first. Is there a way to remove the steam pop up function from the HMD button? That would make it cleaner to use but if not, hey at least we now have the pass through. Great work (keep them coming 🙂 ) Cheers! Fink.
  19. Hi C.T. I downloaded 1.0.14.1 (BETA). The first time it almost got to the end and then it popped up a message to say it couldn't communicate with the HMD, which was odd as I don't usually have many issues with this gear. It worked on the second go but when I looked at the settings the camera setting is greyed out. Is that supposed to be the case? Secondly I don't have any Vive wands. I use Index controllers with Elite face plate and 1.0 base stations so it there a way to map the function to the right system button on those controllers? HMD button on the headset (single or double click) only brings up the steam dashboard. It would be a nice feature that have though 🙂less bruising. Cheers! Fink.
  20. Yay I can finally switch between my monitors :) The support for Vive Hand Tracking SDK on Elite is also a welcomed addition an something to play with over the Xmas break. Well done and have a Merry Christmas. Fink.
  21. Mate I would just try it on another PC (that supports VR) if possible and see if it does the same thing. If it does it's either the HMD, the Vive console box or the cables and of course if it doesn't then you have your answer and you can troubleshoot your PC further to find the culprit. I'm sure you've done all the usual things like ensuring the faceplate is securely clicked into and the data cable is firmly in place (if you move around vigorously you can pull it out during a session). Good luck and let us know what you find. Fink.
  22. @C.T. Yes you have mentioned this before but thanks but this happened with the original faceplate and controllers (inside out tracking). At the time the Elite faceplate wasn't being used and the base stations were of course off. It was odd so I thought I'd see if anyone else had the same issue. I have resolved it by going back to the main branch (not the beta) and can now access origin again with inside out tracking and also swap between the two face plates with the expected functionality but I might try going back to the beta and see if I get the same issue just out of curiosity. It seems no one else had the issue so maybe just a corrupt file or setting unique to my setup at the time. Cheers Fink.
  23. Hi all. After using the Elite faceplate and base stations for a while I thought I'd got back and re-experience the convenience of the base Cosmos I particularly like the Lens as a quick and easy launcher and while I was there I tried to load the Origin environment and it started to load with the usual swirling nebula thing and then a message on the screen saying that you need a cosmos headset to access this (not verbatim but close enough). I tried a few more times over a few days but the same result. I was using the beta version of the software so i just went back to the main steam version and I was able to load it again. I'll see if it happens again just wondering if anyone else had this issue? We should be able to swap faceplates without having to reload different version of the software to get it to load I would think assume 😞 Fink.
  24. Hi mate. I'm probably not allowed to promote any seller's commercial venture's from eBay in this forum directly but if you you can't get parts from the manufacturer for some odd reason you may as well go to eBay and type in Vive lens mod, about 9 items down the page is a full kit including the lenses and the mounting brackets with tool and instructions. The other way is to buy a old Gear VR HMD (they go really cheap but only get the BLACK model and around build date around 2016 I think) and carefully remove the lenses (chuck away the rest) then you just have to buy the 3D printed brackets for the Cosmos which cost only a few bucks. Installation is easy if you're patient and careful. I have to say they are different lenses from stock Cosmos lenses not plastic but glass (don't scratch them) but they have a much expanded sweet spot and "most" people say it's better for them both visually and comfort-wise (not so goggled and easier on the eyes) if you look on forums and YouTube but of course try at your own risk and remember it voids warranty if you still have it. Put your old lens in a scratch and dust free place as they can scratch easily. I suggest check out a few videos and posts on reddit before you try it just so you're comfortable doing it. It really isn't that difficult. Oh and make sure your in a dust free area or do it in a bath room after steaming up the room first to take the dust out of the air (let the steam dissipate of course) otherwise you will probably get some get particles on the LCD and see black dots here and there though they can be removed with care. I found it works well but don't blame me if you screw it up 😉 everyone is different in doing these things or maybe get a computer repair shop to do it if you're uncertain but I hope it helps you get more pleasure from your device. I'm surprised that support won't sell you replacement lenses, if they are damaged they normally love to sell you stuff at a great price 🙂 Fink. "Fortune favours the brave"
  25. Hi mate. If you're handy or have a computer repair shop near you why don't you just replace the lenses (both) with the lens upgrade kits for the Cosmos that you can get on eBay and other places since the HMD is probably out of warranty anyway if it's second hand, though you should check that first. If done correctly the end result is purported to be better than the original lenses by almost everyone who has tried it look it up on YouTube plenty of videos. It will definitely be in time for Christmas for the kids just make sure you get the correct ones for the Cosmos as the 3D printed lens mounts that you put into the HMD are specific for that model. It's not supported by Vive of course but I'm sure they don't care if it puts a smile on your kids faces at Christmas time. Good luck and let us know if you go ahead with it. Cheers Fink.
