  1. Howdy Folks, My Focus 3 has two remembered Wifi networks that I alternate between. The first is from my ISP router which is a slow network, but it has internet access. The second is a dedicated Wifi 6 network connected directly to my computer - this network has no internet access due to its direct connection to the computer for maximum performance. If I need an over-the-air update I connect it to the ISP network, but for all other uses it is connected to the Wifi 6 network. The problem I have is that whenever the headset starts up, it starts on the Wifi 6 network but then logs out and then switches to the ISP network - presumably because that network has internet connectivity? I then have to go through the hassles of manually re-picking the Wifi 6 network each and every time I start the headset. Is there a way to prevent the headset from auto-switching networks? If here isn't, could this be considered a feature for a new update? RobP
  2. Thanks! That will be me mis-understanding what the button does! 🙂 Does that mean the Vive Focus 3 is OpenXR enabled by default? And the above button is only used to enable the additional extensions?
  3. Howdy folks! This one could be a 'me' issue - but I have been looking to get OpenXR up and running for my Vive Focus 3 and have attempted to use the 'Register' button in the VBS Client (see attached image), but this doesn't seem to do anything. Is there anything I'm missing? This is on Windows 11 and the VBS client version is 1.11.3b BETA. Thanks RobP
  4. I think this is a recent bug. The controllers used to last 2-3 weeks when in standby. But ever since the last update, I'm lucky if they make it past 24 hours. I tend to leave mine permanently on charge now, though I wish HTC would fix this.
  5. Thanks for this - I had no idea this was possible 🙂
  6. Hi Folks, This is probably a silly question on my part, but can VBS be setup to use OpenXR rather than Steam's OpenVR? When I start VBS, it opens and runs SteamVR right away, so I'm wondering if there is a tweakable setting somewhere? The reason for the question, is that some non steam VR simulators like DCS World are now starting to support OpenXR in preference to OpenVR. I'm guessing they are doing this because OpenXR has faster performance? Any help would be much appreciated. RobP
  7. For Skyrim you have to go into steam and assign a new controller binding. The default ones don't work. Luckily other people have made bindings already. I think I use the Vive Cosmos ones and they work a treat 🙂
  8. Yes - I get this. It's only a recent thing too. On my system I traced it to my controller power levels. If any one of them is at 5% or less, I would get the Vive intro screen continuously asking me to connect the controller. It connects for a few seconds, loses connection, then you get asked to connect both controllers again. The work around for me at least is to make sure both controllers are charged up. The issue for me, is that these days, the controllers seem to eat a huge amount of power in standby. Sometimes I go to play only to discover my nearly fully charged controllers need recharging. This never used to be an issue until the last controller firmware upgrade.
  9. The boneworks thing is great! I can't thank you enough! @vrwanter Skyrim already works with the Focus 3, but you need to add a controller profile in steam.
  10. Just updated my headset the the newer version and whilst playing around I discovered it wasn't compatibility mode that fixed the issue. Instead it is enabling USB Debugging that allows the windows VBS client to install onto the headset. I had originally done both at the same time and had kind of assumed it was the compatibility mode setting, but my current testing shows that can be either on or off. But setting USB Debugging to enabled is critical for updating the headset over USB - at least on my W11 system 🙂
  11. Ok, I sorted it out. In my case I had to go into the headset and set its USB setting to 'Compatibility Mode' which is odd given that VBS is working 🙂 But it has done the trick 🙂
  12. Any tips for installing the Focus 3 client? On my system, clicking the install button claims I'm not connected to USB, yet the plug icon shows it is connected and I can even run up my existing VBS client over the connection. Tried a whole bunch of things but nothing works. I'm using Windows 11 with no specialist security software, other than the default that comes with the OS.
  13. Brilliant idea! Orders extension lead! Thanks 🙂
  14. Or perhaps have the dummy unit in the headset connect to a much bigger battery, either on a belt or backpack?
  15. Howdy All! The Focus 3 is without any doubt one of the best wireless gaming headsets available. My time on it is spent between wireless room scale and seated simulation - such as Flight Simulations or Racing Simulations. I was wondering if HTC could design a power supply in the exact shape of the Focus 3 battery that can be put into the Focus 3 as a battery replacement. It would have a power socket in the same place as the battery to allow it to be connected to the mains via an external transformer to convert mains to DC. The advantage of one of these is that when seated, the 2 hour battery limit goes away! Would be interesting to hear if it would be worthwhile HTC doing this? If not I'll probably buy another spare battery and convert it into one of these! RobP
  16. I agree. I'm not a business user and bought it as right now it is by far the best wireless gaming headset on the market. I do miss Boneworks though and hope we can figure it out.
  17. I found much less light leak with the narrow one..... but..... I no longer use it.... Why? The narrow one is exceedingly uncomfortable for any gaming over 15 mins. I think it is because it grips the top of my forehead so tightly. It's like a need the forehead shape of the wide one but a bit more padding or extensions on the side. This might be something that only happens with my face shape, but the light leak is in the form of two vertical strips, one on each side of the headset and is very noticeable if bright light is shining in through the windows. Despite this issue, I still think this is the best gaming headset available for a reasonable price to the consumer.
  18. Hi All, I have been very happy with the Vive Focus 3 since the last vbs patch. However, whilst trying to eek out some more clarity from DCS World (A combat flight simulator), I finally decided to tweak the QualityPreset.json file so that the highest quality setting is using the native resolution of the headset. ie I tweaked it from Rx, Ry 2048 to 2448. I was a little concerned my system would have issues as my graphics card is an ancient 1080ti, but as it turns out there were no issues either wired or using wifi! The results? Stunning. It elevates this headset up another level. If you have the computing horsepower, I highly recommend that you make this change. HTC really need to add an ultra setting to VBS, one that supports the native resolution of the headset. I have played Half Life Alyx and Skyrim over wireless and Assetto Corsa Competizione and DCS World wired without any issue. I have found that wired seems to help with the smoothness for the sims, though I have no idea why. The QualityPreset.json file should be under C:\ProgramData\HTC\ViveSoftware\ViveRR\RRServer. I made this tweak (in Bold ) "FOCUS3": [ { "PS": 0, "RS": 1.0, "OF": 1.0, "RX": 2448, "RY": 2448, "BR": 100000000, "CP": 1 }, { "PS": 1, "FPS": 90, "RS": 1.0, "OF": 1.0, "RX": 1728, "RY": 1728, "BR": 100000000, "CP": 2 }, { "PS": 2, "RS": 1.0, "OF": 1.0, "RX": 1536, "RY": 1536, "BR": 100000000, "CP": 3 } ] You can confirm it is working by checking out the resolution of the headset on the VBS client when running. As always, back up your configuration file first! As for my computer specs: nVidia 1080ti with 11Gb RAM Intel Core i9-9900KS @ 4.0 Ghz 32Gb RAM For Wifi I'm running at max quality and 200 Mbps and max sharpening. I'm using a Wifi6 router connected directly to my PC via a wired connection. The router is a TP-Link AX1800. To be frank I'm just floored. First I had a big upgrade when I bought the Wifi 6 router. Then it went up a notch with the latest VBS patch. And now with the file hack it is on another level entirely. If you have similar specs to me, I highly recommend you make this file tweak 🙂 RobP
  19. No idea - but I have it on with its max setting. I did a ton of a-b testing against my Vive Pro 1 and having sharpening on max brought the details out and brought the clarity almost on par with the Vive Pro 1. (By clarity I mean lack of image softness and additional detail). I did a lot of testing both in Half Life Alyx and also Star Wars Squadrons. The sharpening was most apparent in squadrons. The grill on the Tie Fighter 'wings' is much more pronounced. At first I thought it was too pronounced, but as it turns out, max sharpening brought out the grill details to pretty much the same level as the Vive Pro 1. No idea what algorithm they are using. Maybe Unsharp Mask? Who knows, but what I can say is that it accentuates details in low contrast areas.
  20. A little late to the party, but I'm very impressed with this release. With Wifi6 I can go full detail @ 200Mbps with no drop outs - just amazing! And what's more with full sharpening I found the image to be almost as sharp as a Vive Pro 1. This is a massive improvement over the previous release. In fact the difference in sharpness between the two headsets is hard to discern and does require a lot of A-B testing. It was this release that finally retired the Vive Pro 1. The Focus has a much wider field of view (if you do up the back knob properly), zero screen door and despite what people say, I actually think it's a pretty clear display right across the FoV (white text on a black background withstanding). To have this become my main driver would have been impossible a month or two back because the image quality was way too soft. I know the devs rarely get the praise they deserve, but they deserve this one! 🙂
  21. I agree, the video player is very good, but it does have a bug - at least on my setup. If I play a video, I can select the relevant projection settings and everything is great. But if I switch off the headset and go back to the same video, I find it doesn't render properly because it is using the wrong projection settings. However, if I examine the projection settings they are correct. The fix, is to change your projection setting to any other setting, then set it back to what it was. This seems to get the video player to use the correct settings.
