VIVE Business Streaming Software - 1.08.8 - Release notes

Released August 4th, 2022

Release Highlights

Dynamic Bitrate

The new dynamic bitrate feature helps keep the wireless streaming experience stable when the wireless connection is not optimal. Dynamic bitrate automatically adjusts the streaming bitrate based on your network’s bandwidth and the bitrate set in the VIVE Business Streaming console to give you the best wireless streaming experience.

Visual Sharpening

By leveraging Wave FSE (Frame Sharpness Enhancement) for sharpening, visual quality is greatly improved. We’ve also added more sharpening levels to better cater to your needs.

Audio Latency

VIVE Virtual Audio Driver has been rewritten to shorten the audio capture path. This helps with audio latency especially when playing VR apps with demanding audio needs like Beat Saber.

More Input Combinations

With the latest VIVE Focus 3 software (v. 5.0.999.558) and VIVE Business Streaming (v. 1.08), more input combinations are available for interacting in VR. You can now use one hand and one controller or one controller and one VIVE Wrist Tracker at the same time.

Install the VIVE Business Streaming app via the VIVE Business Streaming console

Install the VIVE Business Streaming app and app updates on the headset via the VIVE Business Streaming console. Connect your VIVE Focus 3 to your computer using a USB Type-C cable so you can install the latest VIVE Business Streaming app.  We’ve also provided an in-VR notification when an update is available, so you don’t miss out on the latest updates.

Detail Change List

Console - 1.08.8

  • Added a dynamic bitrate option to automatically enhance wireless streaming performance. You can find this option in Settings > Performance > Dynamic bitrate.
  • Added a restart SteamVR dialog box when a restart is needed when certain options are changed (for example, the Emulate VIVE Wrist Tracker as VIVE Tracker option).
  • Audio can now be streamed to the headset even if your computer doesn’t have a sound card.
  • Improved visual quality with enhanced sharpness.
  • Improved audio latency.
  • Improved streaming efficiency with uplink data compression.
  • Resolved a hand skeleton issue where it sometimes doesn’t work properly.
  • Fixed a potential issue (error code: 921) on computers using AMD GPUs.
  • Install the VIVE Business Streaming app and app updates on the headset through the VIVE Business Streaming console. You can find this option in Settings > Advanced.
  • Allow tracking of one hand and one controller at the same time when supported by the VR app. You can find this option in Settings > Preferences > Hand and controller at the same time.
Note: VIVE Focus 3 software must be updated to version 5.0.999.514 or later.

Client - 1.0.11.8

  • Fixed a potential issue where the app stops responding when launching.
  • Improved streaming efficiency with uplink data compression.
  • Improved wireless VIVE Business Streaming server detection mechanism.
  • Improved TCP mode stability.
  • Support dynamic bitrate to improve wireless streaming experience.
  • Show VIVE Business Streaming app [BETA] notification and update notification when connected. (Press the trigger to close the notification.)

Other updates (for developers)

  • Added support for VIVE Wrist Tracker USB raw data input. You can find this option in Settings > Preferences > Emulate VIVE Wrist Tracker as VIVE Tracker. Clear this option for USB raw data input.
  • Improved VIVE Wrist Tracker emulated as VIVE Tracker compatibility when developing VR apps with Unreal Engine.

Is there a minimum SteamVR version that is supported with business streaming?

The 1.07.13a version worked with steamvr version 1.10.32.  but this newere version of VBS does not work with that older version of steamvr (you get a error in the steam logs saying it could not init the business streaming driver).

Wow such a huge update, hyped to put it on trial tommorow. A feature request would be to put the headset into 3DOF in the menu this is to convert it to steamvr tracking with an extra tracker.

Simple use case is that the height in certain applications isn't working correctly.

It shouldn't, i would try a reinstallation and i would also recommend you to try the latest steamvr or heck even the new beta due to fixes in the new versions. But no the VBS doesn't require any special steamvr as the driver is just emulating a "headset"

We had a very few cases since yesterday reported that, SteamVR Add-On has been disabled after updates.
Make sure htc_business_Streaming is enabled first. Thanks

The add-on is still enabled.   I re-installed it this morning to double check and included a screen print of the different components below.  Based on the message in the steam logs it appears that they removed support for the older openvr interface version in the driver.  Unfortunately i can't upgrade the steamvr version right now (a few of our games don't work quite right on the newer version).

Is 1.08.8 Beta and 1.08.8 public basically the exact same software?

Basically same but minor tweaks -> stuff stays in beta until its validated and no bugs are found. If you wanna trial stuff you run beta, for stuff you need stable you run regular build.
