VIVE 3DSP Audio SDK feature introduction : Spatializer

Recommended Posts

In 3DSP SDK, Spatializer is an fundamental function.

By this function, the sound of the object can be localized.

Thus, even the audio playback device is a stereo system with just L/R channels, the directional sound feeling can still be performed.

For this feature, HRTF (Head Related Transfer Function) is necessary.

In Vive 3DSP, the sound responses are measured at every 5 degrees angle.

Therefore, it can be expected that the HRTF quality in this SDK is very precise.

Not only that, the unique processing at HRTF data base is also adopted to remove the quality loss of measurement.

The characteristic of spatial audio are kept, including sound response, time difference, and level difference but the sound quality is enhanced.

This technology is so-called as Loss-Less-HRTF and has been available in Vive 3DSP.

Moreover, the Ambisonic operation with HRTF is also implemented in this spatializer.

Because of the HRTF database, it can be imaged as there are a lot of virtual speakers in the SDK and it is easy to operate the sound beam-forming with those virtual speakers.

Thus, the obviously directional sound feeling can be represented.

In the SDK, the 3rd order Ambisonic operation is allowed.

By this operation, it is possible to process a lot of sound objects at same time but the computation consumption cab be very less.

Overall, sound spatializer makes the sound event become directional with very good sound quality.

In the following video, when the condition of the sound object and the user is changed, the corresponding sound feeling can be provided.

Thus, by this SDK, a content developer can easily design the scene with the abundant sound events.
