Use Unreal's PlayHapticEffect function when using the Wave plugin

Unreal Engine has a PlayHapticEffect function. This works with the OpenXR plugin but doesn't seem to work with the Wave plugin. I know that there is a TriggerHapticPulse function in the Wave VRInput Function Library that can be used but is this the only option for haptics?
