RobP Posted November 6, 2024 Posted November 6, 2024 Hi All, The good news is that the headset is finally stable after updating all the software and drivers - though for wireless I can only use TCP mode, which is fine as that seems to work very well. The only remaining issue is a Display Port issue. If I rotate my head, I get repeatable frame drops/judder every 10 degrees or so. It's only head rotations that seem to do this. I even get it in low performance environments like Steam VR home. It's most distracting from an otherwise very smooth and detailed experience. I was wondering if anyone else is experiencing a similar issue? I did read that an early reviewer had exactly the same issue and that HTC said it was down to an old batch of Display Port cables. Is that a thing? If so, is there a way of identifying my cable? I got my DP kit pretty early on Monday 21st of October, so maybe I have an old cable? 1
RobP Posted November 7, 2024 Author Posted November 7, 2024 The GPU is a Gigabyte 4090 Aorus Master graphics card with 24Gb on board. It's running nVidia driver 566.03. The rest of the machine specs are an Intel I9-13900K @ 3Ghz with 64Gb RAM. Performance between the framedrops/jitters is very good indeed, even with demanding titles like Microsoft Flight Sim, as long as I don't rotate my head. The issue happens in all games and as noted above it also happens in Steam VR home which isn't too demanding. The review I mentioned above is this one Vive Focus Vision Hands-On: Lossless PC VR Through Fresnel Lenses around 8 paragraphs down. It's the comment about the pre-release cable that I find interesting. One thing I will try tonight is my Focus 3's streaming cable. It looks outwardly the same as the DP cable, so it would be interesting to see if there are any differences.
RobP Posted November 7, 2024 Author Posted November 7, 2024 That was unexpected.... It was the cable! I switched to 560.94 and things seemed a little better, but the judder was still there. I then decided to get my Focus 3 out of storage and on an off chance, try its usb streaming cable. This worked no jitters! I then went back to 566.03 with the Focus 3 cable and again everything worked great. As a final step, I switched back to the Vision's cable and things went back to being jittery. I didn't believe the results so switched both cables in and out a few times. Each time, the Focus 3 cable was perfect, but the Focus Vision cable showed frame drops. I'm guessing I somehow got a pre-release cable?
RobP Posted November 7, 2024 Author Posted November 7, 2024 You're right - I just did another test. I had assumed that if the cable was plugged into the box it would always be DP streaming. But the icon is indeed Blue with the Focus 3 cable. I guess the DP box falls back to USB streaming when the wrong cable is connected? Darn, I guess, back to the original issue!
RobP Posted November 8, 2024 Author Posted November 8, 2024 Thanks CT - will let you know how I get on 🙂

Thought it was just my setup for whatever reason. On 11/8/2024 at 12:24 PM, C.T. said: let me get you a tool to update the convertor firmware. Can I also get this firmware update?
Nessuno0505 Posted November 11, 2024 Posted November 11, 2024 (edited) Sorry man, I replied but realized that your problem was not what I first imagined. I can't find the "delete post" button, so I'm editing. Ignore me! Edited November 11, 2024 by Nessuno0505 I don't understand the topic of conversation
