Draydox
Okay, so I've been trying to fix my error 208 for a solid week now. Every time I think I've fixed it, it comes back again after disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI. I have tried every solution I've found on the internet, like restarting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, checking all the cables for the 100th time, bypassing the link box. And the only way I can manage to get video on the Vive is to literally plug a USB directly from the headset to my PC. This made me think that there was a problem with the 3 in 1 cable, but since I got it to work earlier today (Don't even know how), it seems that the problem lies with the USB drivers. But as I've previously stated, I've tried reinstalling the drivers several times. I've also observed that a new audio unit is being installed everytime i plug my Vive into a USB. I don't know if it's supposed to be that way. I've tried contacting Steam Support several times, but everytime I do I get the same message about checking the cables and other normal troubleshooting tips. The part of this problem that confuses me the most is the fact that the error seems to pop up randomly. I can happily be playing with my Vive one day, then have error 208 pop up the following day. This is frustrating and time consuming as my PC takes an absolute age to reboot. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks
Synthesis
Hey, have you tried USB Deview yet? Sometimes that sorts out even the trickest USB issues. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?s=6643267c2b51f08c93e8fc35bf35aa48&ref=2748-WEIK-9562Also, what sort of motherboard do you have? And is this an ongoing problem or something that only cropped up recently? Thanks, -John C
Draydox
Hello and thanks for the speedy response. I've tried USB Deview before, but I tried again just now just to be safe, sadly it didn't work. I have a MSI B85M-E45 The first time I had the error pop up was about half a year ago, but it has been popping up more frequently in the last month or so. Draydox
Hello. I got the Vive to work by simply straghtening out the 3 in 1 cables going from the HMD to the Link box. It then worked for roughly a week before starting to give the 208 error once again. I've now tried every fix that I tried the last time, like restarting PC, USBDEVIEW, power cycling the link box, bypassing link box etc. After having tried all of these things it feels kind of hopeless, and would appreciate any help, Thanks
Draydox
Okay, after further testing I've found that if I plug an HDMI directly from my PC into the headset it works, meaning that the problem seemingly lies within the 3 in 1 cable, as bypassing the link box doesn't work. So the fix for me would possibly be to buy a new 3 in 1 cable, something I'm not very pleased about as I can't see any significant signs of damage on the cable, and I haven't handled the headset very roughly. Synthesis
It might just be the cable. Can you test it by removing the 3-in-1 cable and just plugging in the HDMI cable and USB from the back of the PC?Thanks, -John C
Draydox
Hey. Yeah, the problem seems to lie with the cable as opposed to being a driver or usb issue. It only works when I plug the HDMI directly to the headset though, the USB seems to work fine when put through the Link box. But buying a new 3 in 1 cable is a bit annoying as I can't see any clearly visible damage on the cable itself, and I think I've handled the headset properly.
