Does the Vive Pro with Lighthouse 2.0 Support 4 lighthouses today?

According to the HTC website,

Tracked space at launch will support 6x6 meter area. VIVE Pro is capable of supporting a 10x10 meter area using up to four SteamVR Base Station 2.0 units, along with a software update to be delivered at a later date.

So the larger tracking space requires a firware update set to come out later this year.  My question is, with a 6m x 6m space, does the Vive Pro and four Lighthouse 2.0 work today?  And does four lighthouses enhance the Vive Pro tracking?

, the rollout of additional features for basestation 2.0 is managed by Valve, not HTC. As of this post, only two basestations are supported currently. When they launch the required update, we'll alert everyone. Using additional basestations will decrease chances of occlusion thus improving tracking and will allow for more non-standard playspaces. It's really only required if you want larger tracking volumes or have issues with occlusion.

A little correction on this: Working with four base stations is possible right now, the drivers have been there for several months. All you need to do is to configure your base stations so that each station has an individual channel (S-0 through S-3 available currently). There are some issues still that appear to be leading to some jittery tracking near the center of the tracking space. Valve is preparing a new firmware update that should improve some of those issues, especially for larger tracking spaces.

We're stress testing the 4x BS2.0 setup with the Vive Pro this weekend at DoKomi, which expects 40.000 visitors. So far, the initial setup can be a bit try & error, as the base stations are not always correctly located on the first attempt. But once the setup is complete, tracking works like a charm, especially for common-space multiplayer games where players get really close to each other. The new setup improves the occlusion significantly.

That's really interesting! What are the dimensions of the space that you have set up in the photos? And did you test a larger area as well? I'm interested if its limited to 6x6 meters, or if 10x10 is possible with the current firmware.

, the individual basestations are now rated for 6 meters as opposed to 1.0's 5 meter rating. The larger spaces are only supported when using more than 2 basestations in an array. These features are considered to be pre-release, we'll comment officially on our plans for 2.0 at the earliest opportunity.

Hi Sebastian,

Great setup! looking at the photos I see that you currently have 4 headsets in the play area.

Question for you, if we add a wireless device to each headset.. would the 4 headsets still work in the play area?

We will be setting up a 30' x 30' play area.  Thank you for your time inadvance!

Regards,

Milton Toledo

^  30 feet by 30 feet is what BS2.0 is rated for under ideal conditions, your range and quality of tracking will vary a bit due to environmental factors.

If you're planning on using the Vive wireless adapter, we're currently only rating it officially to support 3 HMDs in one area and there are considerations to make for signal strength, line of sight, ect... The wireless adapter's release timeline is on schedule and we'll be sharing more info about it very soon.
