Tsukasa117
So heres my story I bought the Vive ot it set up mounted the light boxes using the wall mounts used it for maybe 2 hours next morning one of them was blinking red. Contacted HTC support I was informed that it was a hardware failure in relation to the gyro's in the box and that it might have been a result of travel to my house via UPS. My question is this, how fragile are they exactly since they contain moving parts can just the normal operation of the device break it and how do I prevent that? Synthesis
Hi there. Like any device with moving parts, there is a chance that the mechanism will wear down and fail after a time depending on a number of factors. The base stations are actually quite robust, though of course, jolting them or knocking them over while in use isn't going to extend their operational life. Only move them while they are not powered on.Thank you, -John C
Tsukasa117
Thanks for the response, I'm hoping its just a one off event but wanted to see what other that have had the device longer might have using it. I've been unplugging the base stations when not in use so they don't continue to move and my computer doesn't have bluetooth so I can't put it in standby. Mr.Town
One of my base stations went down after 5 months of 1-2 hours of use a week doing architectural walk throughts. It is in for repairs. From reading this forum, base station failure seems to happen a lot and the repair time is taking several months instead of the 7-10 days HTC is telling us. I am beyond frustrated. Tsukasa117
Sorry to hear that friend, I just got my replacement Vive about 2 weeks ago. I've been actively unplugging the base/lighthouse units when not in use to reduce wear but I'm no less concerned that the next time I power them on could be the last which is not the place one generally wants to be in with a almost $400 product but here we are.
