So i purchased the htc vive pro but didn't realise i needed a displayport, my laptop doesn't have a displayport or a mini displayport so i was wondering if it would work with a Minidisplayport to Hdmi cable or anything else like a minidisplayport to D-sub or minidisplayport to USB 3.1 type C?

Hi

I run a Vive pro from an imac pro with an Aerofara USB C (Thunderbolt 3) - mini displayport cable.

I read somewhere that a quality cable is prefereable to an adaptor.

, please see https://community.viveport.com/t5/Technical-Support/VIve-Pro-not-working-when-connected-to-laptop-through-miniDP-to/m-p/19194/highlight/true#M7087

You must insure that your USB-C supports displayport 1.2 and if you have an Nvidia card, you may need to adjust the following setting to "high-performance Nvidia processor".

, Normally it's listed in the tech specs for most OEMs but Acer's specs on this laptop are not very detailed.

According to this KB article, the port is data-only and not connected to the GPU. I would recommend sending a note to Acer to confirm. https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/51533/~/usb-c-port-does-not-support-video-output-on-predator-helios-300-models-%28g3-571%2C

, Sorry for the delayed response, it seems my response didn't actually post. Unless you have a DP1.2+ compatible output, you will not be able to use the Pro unfortunately.  I would always refer to the OEM of your hardware to verify what hardware capabilities it has - from afar, it does seem like this specific model is not Pro compatible.
