Shionji Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 So i purchased the htc vive pro but didn't realise i needed a displayport, my laptop doesn't have a displayport or a mini displayport so i was wondering if it would work with a Minidisplayport to Hdmi cable or anything else like a minidisplayport to D-sub or minidisplayport to USB 3.1 type C?
vr_JL Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 Hi I run a Vive pro from an imac pro with an Aerofara USB C (Thunderbolt 3) - mini displayport cable. I read somewhere that a quality cable is prefereable to an adaptor. JL
Shionji Posted May 30, 2018 Author Posted May 30, 2018 Hi JL, i was planning on getting a cable but as my cable is usb3.1 type C and not hunderbolt 3, iw as wondering itf it'd still work :s
HackPerception Posted May 30, 2018 Posted May 30, 2018 , please see https://community.viveport.com/t5/Technical-Support/VIve-Pro-not-working-when-connected-to-laptop-through-miniDP-to/m-p/19194/highlight/true#M7087 You must insure that your USB-C supports displayport 1.2 and if you have an Nvidia card, you may need to adjust the following setting to "high-performance Nvidia processor".
Jackevolution Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 Hey I just got the acer predator helios 300 with a usb-c 3.1 portwith an nvidia GeForce GTX 1060. I bought this adaptater: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018AX3HJO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_ep_dp_H80.AbR8VKXJ1 and it doesn't work. Is there a way to check if the usb-c port can support display port 1.2?
HackPerception Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 , Normally it's listed in the tech specs for most OEMs but Acer's specs on this laptop are not very detailed. According to this KB article, the port is data-only and not connected to the GPU. I would recommend sending a note to Acer to confirm. https://us.answers.acer.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/51533/~/usb-c-port-does-not-support-video-output-on-predator-helios-300-models-%28g3-571%2C
Jackevolution Posted July 27, 2018 Posted July 27, 2018 I checked the model number and the port is not connected to the GPU. So does that mean I can’t use the vive Pro with this laptop? Thank you.
HackPerception Posted August 1, 2018 Posted August 1, 2018 , Sorry for the delayed response, it seems my response didn't actually post. Unless you have a DP1.2+ compatible output, you will not be able to use the Pro unfortunately. I would always refer to the OEM of your hardware to verify what hardware capabilities it has - from afar, it does seem like this specific model is not Pro compatible.
Jackevolution Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 Ok so i bought this laptop with a mdp 1.2 I will receive it tonight with a mdp to mdp cable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N7TWAYC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_PAWyBb4F2F0C4 I will tell you if it works. Thank you for the details.
HackPerception Posted August 2, 2018 Posted August 2, 2018 , oh dang - that's one way to solve that issue @_@.... I think that this one should be good (and overall be much more suitable due to its 1080). Which MDP cable did you buy? We're recommending the 3 foot variation of this cable in case you have troubles with the one you ordered.
