What are the Viveport Developer Awards?

 

The third annual Viveport Developer Awards is an open contest for VR developers who have been, or will be, published on Viveport Subscription. The Viveport Developer Awards showcase, celebrate and reward VR developers and their VR experiences. There are two sets of categories for the two types of VR titles distributed on Viveport: PC and Mobile.

What prizes can be won in the Viveport Developer Awards?

 

PC 

Each category of the PC contest will have a winner and a finalist:

 

  • The winner will receive: $30,000 USD, a studio profile video produced by Viveport, priority access to new developer hardware, two tickets to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, marketing support and paid media, and a physical trophy commemorating the award.
  • The finalist will receive: $15,000 USD, a studio profile video produced by Viveport, priority access to new developer hardware, two tickets to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, marketing support and paid media, and a physical trophy commemorating the award.

Mobile

Each category of the Mobile contest will have one winner:

 

  • The winner will receive: $30,000 USD, a studio profile video produced by Viveport, priority access to new developer hardware, two tickets to the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, marketing support and paid media, and a physical trophy commemorating the award. 

 

What are the content categories?

 

In the Viveport Developer Awards, there are four categories for PC titles and three categories for Mobile titles. For each title submitted, developers must select one category for their title to be judged in. The categories are:

 

PC and Mobile

 

Entertainment: Captivates the player in an engaging world and story. Features interactivity that is satisfying and rewarding. Leaves a lasting impression. Encourages the player to revisit the title again and again. Games and narrative-driven experiences.

 

Education: Offers immersive and interactive learning experiences for the classroom or outside of it. Sparks curiosity, imagination and passion for intriguing subject matter.

 

Arts & Culture: Enables, preserves, and democratizes creation in the arts. Addresses a diverse, global audience and contributes to the knowledge and enjoyment of cultural heritage.

 

PC only

 

Arcade: Delights customers new to virtual reality. Designed for location-based entertainment considering ease of learning and playtime. A great choice for venues and businesses offering virtual reality experiences.

 

How are titles entered for consideration in the Viveport Developer Awards?

 

Developers can submit their titles in the Viveport Developer Console. For PC, titles can enter if they are selected for the “Home/Arcade” business model and target the “PC” platform. For Mobile, titles can enter if they are selected for the "Home/Arcade" business model and target the "Mobile" platform. Under the “Submission” section, you will find the Viveport Developer Awards opt-in under “Program Opt-ins”. Check the appropriate box and category and finish the rest of your content submission. In order to enter the Viveport Developer Awards, the title must be opted-in for the Viveport Subscription program. If the title is entering the Arcade category, the title must also be opted-in for the Viveport Arcade program. To officially submit your title, select “Create production release” under the “Submit” tab.

 

When does the Viveport Developer Awards start and end?

 

The contest runs from 12:00:00 AM Pacific Time on November 27, 2018. The submission window for content closes on February 1, 2019 at 11:59:59 PM Pacific Time. The Viveport Developer Awards officially ends on March 18, 2018 with the announcement of the winners.

 

Am I eligible to enter the Viveport Developer Awards? What countries can participate?

 

Viveport developers must be registered on the Viveport Developer Console to participate. Developers living in these countries are eligible to enter: United States, Canada (excluding Quebec), United Kingdom, Germany, France, Sweden, Netherlands, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, South Korea, Switzerland, Norway, Poland, Austria, Belgium, Russia, Thailand, Singapore, India, Argentina, Brazil, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Brunei, Bulgaria, Burma, Cambodia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macau, Malta, Malaysia, Peru, Philippines, Slovakia, Slovenia, Uruguay, Vietnam, Mexico, China and Japan. Is my title eligible to enter the Viveport Developer Awards?

 

Most likely, yes. Existing titles on the Viveport store can enter as well as new titles. Titles need to be uploaded and submitted on the Viveport Developer Console by the deadline with the Viveport Developer Awards program opt-in selected. In order to enter the Viveport Developer Awards, the title must be opted-in for the Viveport Subscription program. If the title is entering the Arcade category, the title must also be opted-in for the Viveport Arcade program.

 

Titles not eligible to enter include:

 

  • Titles that were nominated and/or won previous Viveport Developer Awards
  • Titles that have been funded through Vive initiatives including but not limited to Vive Studios, Vive X or VR for Impact

Is China included in the Viveport Developer Awards?

 

Yes. There are no separate Viveport Developer Awards for China for the third annual Viveport Developer Awards and all developers in the eligible countries, including China, can participate.

 

Will my title be published to the Viveport store?

 

Yes. If your title passes our review and submission process, the title will be published to Viveport. In order to enter your title for the Viveport Developer Awards, you must submit your title for publishing to the Viveport store.

 

Does it matter if my title is an app or a game?

 

No. Apps or games can be submitted for the Viveport Developer Awards. We expect most games to submit to the Entertainment or Arcade categories while apps will appear in all four categories.

 

Can I enter more than one title in the Viveport Developer Awards?

 

Yes. We recognize developers often create multiple titles. Each eligible title can be entered. Developers with multiple entries may only win one prize in each of the PC and Mobile categories for a maximum of two prizes.

 

How do I receive my prize?

 

After notifying the developer winners and finalists, the Viveport team will work directly with them to ensure swift payment, scheduling of the studio profile video, and hardware delivery. If a developer is notified of being a winner or nominee, there is an expectation that up to two members of the studio will attend the Viveport Developer Awards event at GDC 2019 to receive their physical trophy commemorating the award and of course, celebrate with their peers and meet many members of the Vive and Viveport teams.

Hi . We plan to announce the nominees around Feb. 25. Just after, we will allocate the 2 GDC passes. We're still working out the logistics (if we provide a code which can be used at time of registration or if we'll handle registration on the nominee's behalf). Thanks!
