I have just started experiencing the same issue on my Vive. The room temperature was only about 27 degrees celcius. I also blasted the A/C to get the temperature down to around 20 degrees and the problem still persisted.
I've narrowed it down to the two sensors beside the front facing camera, and if I put black electrical tape over those two sensors the headset will behave normally. But this doesn't seem like a viable long term solution.
I purchased my vive in March, 2017 and the serial number is:
S/N: FA6C7JJ01906 2016/12
Is there any official word for HTC regarding what to do about it? I happy to RMA the device if necesary, however I'm also developing VR content and can't go too long without the headset. An exchange type of thing like the video card manufacturers do would be amazing.

So I don't see any Vive Developer or Support staff responding to that discussion. So why did you move everyone to it just to ignore it?
I just started having this exact same issue for the past week. My room is 27 degrees Celcius and the two sensors beside the camera are the ones crapping out. If I put electrical tape over the sensors so they stop receiving signals it works, but why is it doing this in the first place? My house was over 30 degrees all summer and everything worked fine.
Any official help from Vive support?
