  1. I know its a personal preference thing but I dislike the Oculus Home environment (and SteamVR Home as well).  I have no desire to create a dollhouse.  I just want to get into a place that I can easily select which apps I want to open/buy/uninstall them.

The latest Oculus version 1.42 PTC (public test channel) allows you to finally go Homeless and I am loving it!  I really hope that Vive does not spend a lot of time allowing customisation of their Origin environment.  I'd rather they keep Origin simple and spend their time on more important things like VR performance and compatibility.

I also have the Rift S and its lenses are noticeabley superior, Considering the Cosmos costs nearly double what the Rift S does I was expecting something at least on par not less.

Ya, the Rift S lens are pretty hard to beat, that's for sure.  The Halo headband is also very nice.  Unfortunately the rest of the design has left a lot to be desired and it also had a lot of early teething problems (eg. poor audio, no ipd adjustment, screen flashing, poor tracking, and grip/fire button lag).  Seems like most of these, 6 months later, are mostly fixed.  I actually pre-ordered/bought a Rift S last May and after just over 3 weeks use I sent it back for a refund and went back to my good old Rift cv1 w/2x sensors.

I'm looking forward to getting my pre-ordered Cosmos early next week and I hope it will be a slight upgrade to my existing Rift cv1 w/2x sensors.  Time will tell I guess.  In your case, only you can decide whether or not the Cosmos is a good upgrade to your current Rift S.  Good luck deciding!

So i just bought the Vive Cosmos and tried to Set it up when i found out that my Laptop dosent have a normal or a Mini Displayport (Big OOF ) is it possible to use a cable that connects the Linkbox with HDMI?

I found some that are Mini Displayport to  HDMI

No, that is never going to work because those adaptors will never supply enough bandwidth.  If your laptop has a proper DP capable Thunderbolt 3 connector that is connected directly to your dGPU (not iGPU) you may be able to use an adaptor for this, but this does not always work well.  So I think you are going to have to return your Cosmos or buy a better PC (preferably a gaming desktop).  Next time do yourself a favour and do a bit more research before buying.  This will save you a lot of time and money.

Well guess I'm taking mine back to the retailer tomorrow then, I hope the replacement isn't faulty.

When HTC announced Cosmos specs they said that it has 40%i mproved lens clarity than the original Vive. so you would think it should be better.

All VR headsets use fresnel lens so depending on the background colours/brightness you will always see some screen door and god rays, esp. outside the sweet spot.  Like everything, if you look hard enough for a problem you will find one.  Once you are immersed in a game most do not notice this much, if at all.  Also, properly adjusting the IPD can help reduce these effects quite a bit.  Also, takes some time to properly adjust the headset tension and position.  It's always taken me at least a week to get used to new VR headsets.  Once you do they feel like an old pair of slippers.

Unless there is some obvious damage to your lens it's unlikely to be faulty imho.  Maybe you need to find a local Microsoft store that has demo headsets so you can see what is normal so you can properly compare them to your Cosmos.  Watching a bunch of YouTube vids is really not going to tell you much.

Kind of a pointless post.. Ok you have an opinion that's off topic.. If wireless doesn't interest you then why are you here? Besides to inject you opinion.

Sorry but I thought that was the point of an open forum.  Sorry that my post seemed off topic and pointless but your post seems pretty rude to me.  I think we need to keep this forum a bit more friendly.  Thanks.

  6. Maybe just me but the wireless option does not interest me whatsoever because I'm mostly playing PCVR flight and racing sims.  So, tethered is not a problem for me.  All PCVR users that I know get along fine with tethered as well.  The last thing I need is a heavy wireless addon that is not going to do much for me and is likely to have a slight negative impact on performance.  Just my opinion btw.  I'm looking forward to getting my pre-ordered Cosmos soon and trying out the new Vive VR system.

    Hi @TomCgcmfc

Thanks for bringing this up.  Typical PayPal integrations such as ours will have the funds charged immediately.  This is actually listed in the cart as you check out but clearly the messaging in the confirmation email is not stating this. Our estore team are working to update this so that it is clarified.  Unfortunately this isn't an element we can change on our end as far as the account being charged immediately for PayPal.  I have attached a screenshot of a sample cart for your reference.  I apologize for the confusion this caused.

Ok, thanks for letting me know this.  I'm really not sure why most other suppliers can mark PayPal payments as Pending and only charge after shipping yet you cannot?  Anyway, now that I know I will probably just use a card next time.  Thanks again for your reply and I'm looking forward to receiving my Cosmos soon.  This will be my first Vive product and I'm looking forward to trying out your new Vive VR system.

  8. I pre-ordered a Cosmos 14 Sept and used paypal no problem.  The terms of purchase said my account would not be charged until my Cosmos was shipped.  However, I got a bank statement today and it showed that my paypal account was actually charged almost immediately after pre-ordering.  I have pre-ordered items in the past (Rift S for example) and my paypal account has always remained Pending until shipment.  I'm not sure why this did not happen in this case.  Today I have started a support ticket ( 10060531 ) asking for an explanation.
