We made a magnetic VIVE Controller Dock! Meet the VIVEDOCK!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, I wanted to post about a project I'm working on with a fellow gamer. We are creating an accessory for the HTC Vive that we think will make your lives a lot easier.

We are hoping you all could provide some honest, critical feedback on the ViveDock. Our goal with the project and our company is to implement feedback received from the VR / PC Gaming enthusiast community. We believe doing so will be order to make the most useful and functional version of our vision as possible.

The product that we're presenting today for your evaluation and feedback is a unique HTC Vive hand-held controller docking system named ViveDock. Existing data and charging docking stations for VR controllers use hard metal-to-metal connectors that quickly fatigue, severely shortening the life of the costly $130 handheld controllers. Continual disconnection and re-connection necessitates dealing with messy tangled cables that often interfere with the game room environment – one more thing to trip over during VR.

The initial release Rev 1.0 of ViveDock uses magnetic proximity connectors over the Micro-USB 3.0 standard that allow high density power to pass from your PC desktop workstation to the handhelds. The controllers disconnect and reconnect from the Vive Dock station seamlessly with a gentle lifting motion.

The unit is to be fabricated out of renewable bio-polymer during the injection molding process and is easily color customization to suit any game room décor. Durability questions have been addressed by choosing to use recycled ABS resin, also used in automotive applications

The planned Tier 2, or ViveDock Plus model that will have co-located power and data connectivity to recharge and push firmware updates to the handheld controllers, as well as receive advanced diagnostic information for troubleshooting controller issues.

As gamers in this rapidly evolving and cutting edge market, your feedback is invaluable. We welcome any and all comments and suggestions regarding design, aesthetics and functionality. We intend to use the feedback to further refine and improve the design prior to our anticipated Kickstarter offering on May 10th, 2017.

Thank you for taking the time to read about the ViveDock and Forge Devices. Your comments and feedback are extremely valuable!
