Hand Tracking in direct preview - Unity

In the VIVE Wave XR plugin - Essence, there is a sample scene called HandInput. 

It seems to be working ok when I build and Run (although hand gestures are not recognized).

However, when I play it in Direct Preview I do not have the beam of the hands, so I cannot select anything. 

Am I missing something ?

(I am using Wave XR plugin - Essence 5.2.1-r.1 and unity 2021.3.11f)
