Cameras sensitivity to Infrared Lights for the VIVE XR Elite?

Does anyone know if it's possible to use this device in the dark with an IR flashlight?

Can I use the headset only for AR passthrough, without connecting it to a computer?
Not for games, nothing like that, just to have the camera output presented to me onto the goggles' screen.

I have heard that folks have used IR illuminators, but haven't tested myself.

I don't think a single IR flashlight would sufficiently illuminate a moderately sized room, but I use two IR illuminators for my Focus 3 and can use it in pitch black darkness without any issues. The passthrough works and I can see my surroundings perfectly (grayscale), as long as I'm wearing the HMD. The XR Elite has color passthrough, so not sure how that would look, though.
