That's an unusual issue and based on your description is probably not related to the Vive per se, but since Vive does demand a great deal of system resources, it could be stressing the limits of your PC. Does this happen with any non VR games or other resource intensive applications? I would definitely check and make sure your system is in healthy condition, free from dust and properly cooled. Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date, check for malware and make sure you have enough hard drive space available still.
