Bumping this. I noticed in the HTC store today they've added another faceplate which allows you to add the Cosmos native faceplate to the Cosmos Elite or other Cosmos headsets (https://www.vive.com/ca/accessory/motion-faceplate/). In it, they tout that it will provide the "benefit from extra-accurate inside-out tracking". This is an outright lie. The tracking is not good with the Cosmos.

While I appreciate the updates that they've made to the software, this is becoming ridiculous. Honestly, at this point, don't believe that HTC have any plans to rectify the situation and truly plan to try and gouge people by getting them to pay an extra $700+ to make external tracking work instead of the actual $200 difference in MSRP between the Cosmos and Cosmos Elite. If they truly planned a fairly priced upgrade path for Cosmos users, they wouldn't be continuing to sell the $250 faceplate.

I know I'm only one customer but if HTC doesn't correct this, I'll be selling the Cosmos I bought (at a discount because I'm not an asshole) and continuing to recommend people away from HTC entirely if they're entering the ecosystem. HTC is losing a customer for life and I'm certain I'm not the only one. Owning your mistakes and correcting them is an easy way to earn customer loyalty but fumbling it in the way HTC has is an equally easy way to lose consumer trust. I'll happily jump aboard something like a Valve Index instead of HTC.

Totally agree with you. And I am telling everyone about this piece of sh...!

Bye bye, htc.  Thank you for nothing.

Oh my god, that is the problem. They are black.

I knew about this controller incompatibility problem, and I searched all over to find out how my controller were. When I read that the base stations 2.0 are compatible with the elite I thought I was good.
I completely missed this blue-black thing.

Okay, so I just ordered 2 blue controllers. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

Many thanks for the answers guys. Hopefully this is solved.

Better solution: ordering the Index Controllers, like I did. It works fine!

  3. Tonight I removed the wireless module from the Cosmos and installed it to my original Vive again: Played Boneworks for 4 hours, completing the "Streets" level. Game ran stable, no crashes. Steam VR two times lost connection to the HMD, but after restarting the HMD I was able to continue playing (the game itself had not been influenced by this issuses).

So, for me it's clear: The Cosmos is the Problem.

I found this post on Steam in the Boneworks forum:

Being flung into the void is a typical result of your controllers reporting NaN as their position - I get the same by launching the game with my controllers off, and then turning them on.
In short, it's the physical hands suddenly interacting with the environment in ways that it shouldn't due to poor tracking.

  4. After testing and un-/reinstalling and testing on and on, tonight I removed the wireless module from the Cosmos to play again with my original Vive (played Beat Saber and Boneworks all the night - what a JOY).

Took the 800€-elctronic-waste out of my sight. If there ever will be a functioning tracking solution, which can be verified by the forum users, I'll try again. Epic Fail by HTC. First they killed their Smartphone Market...and now this...

  6. Same Problem with 'Boneworks'. The Issue is being discussed on Steam by other Cosmos Users and there's no solution. Game works great with my "old" Vive. The (still not really working) Tracking is the Problem! I can't even play my beloved 'Beat Saber' - missing more Blocks than hitting. I am so disappointed about this HMD. And I really tried  all hints/suggestions, including making  new, complete setup(s).

I have the 10000 and it lasts around 1.5 hours, similar to the HTC for me. Not tried the 20000 but it will work and should last potentially double that with the bigger sized battery.

I have the 20000 (Price is € 45,99) and it works, too. Runtime up to 4 hours, depending on application. This is the model:

Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 (Model A1278)
