  1. Just wanted to provide an update for those that might come across this thread. Unfortunately I had to do a clean install of Windows to get things sorted, but good news is everything is working great again with the new firmware installed. Not sure what went wrong when I did the HMD update last night, but obviously something in Windows went astray. Thankfully re-installing Windows is a fairly straight forward process these days so wasn't too bad getting up and running again.

Thanks to everyone who provided suggestions trying to help, really appreciate it. And also want to give a shout out to @C.T. to say thanks for being so helpful, and assisting in getting me to the point where I realised something must have gone wrong with Windows.

Hey @NikNargon, sorry for the delay.

You have mentioned that you have updated the NV driver to 2080Ti.
Could you try DDU the NV driver and reinstall the latest or roll back to previous working version to see if it helped?

    Thanks

Hi @C.T., thanks for getting back to me.

I only updated the NV driver after I started experiencing this problem from the HMD firmware update, so I already had a working NV driver in place when this issue occurred. It was working fine with the previous public release firmware build.

It really feels like something has gone wrong when applying the firmware update to the headset itself. Is there a utility I can use to force it to update the firmware on the HMD again?

Please adjust your TDR (Timeout Detection & Recovery) delay, from 2seconds to 8seconds.
Google how to do it for your operating system, It's in your registry.

That error is your display driver crashing because it's not communicating with your GPU during the allocated time, normal for a lot of systems to increase the TDR Delay even for regular games.

    Cheers

Thanks for the suggestion @HoZy, however this has not made any difference.

Can someone from HTC please get back to me? After submitting the info through Vive Console I've received no info back, not even an email acknowledgement of receipt. I had 2 days left on my Christmas break, which I had planned to spend with some quality VR time, and 1 of them has now been spent troubleshooting because I can do nothing with the headset after this update...It was working perfectly before.

Why do you not have a simple rollback option?? Every single hardware device that I own that has the ability to do firmware updates allows you to roll back updates if required. This just seems crazy to me.

  4. Also just did a complete uninstall and reinstall as @TomCgcmfc suggested - It completes the room setup, then takes me to the tutorial where it freezes after running for 5-10 secs. The image completely freezes, however the audio and inputs are still detected (it was prompting me to press buttons on the controller when the image froze, I pressed them after the freeze and they registered, ie. I heard the tutorial voice confirm the buttons had been pressed).

@C.T. and @stvnxu - Can you please provide me with a link to install the previous firmware? I was having zero issues like this prior to this update.

  5. Ok, tried the quick step @A-Jey suggested, but still got the same problem (it flicked me over to beta but didn't look like it actually updated anything on the headset - I switched back before performing next step).

Also tried resetting the HMD under troubleshooting in VIVE Console which looked like it did a reinstall of the software (downloaded 1.8G again and reinstalled) and then got me to do the room setup again (which completes successfully). Still same image freezing problem though when anything launches in VR (SteamVR, VivePort and Elite Dangerous).

Every time the display freezes I have a corresponding entry in Windows event viewer about the display driver crashing and recovering:

"Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered."

Does anyone else here on v1.0.9.6 use a 2080ti?

    @NikNargon

Apologies on the issue you're experiencing.

    1. Can you submit an issue report assuming you can still access the VIVE Console? Instructions can be found here: https://forum.vive.com/topic/6662-how-to-report-issues-through-the-vive-console/

    • Make sure your headset is plugged in and your linkbox is on.
    • Please confirm once you've submitted.

    2. Please provide a description of where in the process that you can't get your device to function. E.g. Roomsetup, error message, content load, etc.

We'll work with you in identifying the issue and getting this resolved as quickly as possible.

    Thanks,

    Hi stvnxu,

You mustn't have seen my previous posts earlier in the thread, I have already submitted through VIVE Console as requested by C.T

Please see posts on previous page for description of issue and screenshot of an error I'm seeing.

    Thanks

  7. Yes I have restarted the PC. As an update in case it helps, I just saw the attached error when launching Elite Dangerous, has just started after the latest update (ie. have been playing on the last few firmware revisions with no problem).

In VivePort I don't see any errors though, will just run for a few seconds and then headset screen freezes.

  8. Hi, after applying this update my headset is constantly freezing after about 30 secs or so. The update completed successfully on both headset and controllers, but now whenever anything launches in the headset the display will freeze (have tried SteamVR, VivePort, Elite Dangerous).

I've updated to the latest NVidia graphics drivers (2080ti) as thought that might be the problem, but issue is still there. Any idea why this might be happening? How do I roll back to the old firmware version?

    Thanks
