Emexrulsier
Just to update that I have done a fresh install of windows, and this issue still exists. You simply can't bring up the steam menu in a game. As soon as you do, the display goes grey, both controllers start flashing in steam VR APP and the base statitions go grey and then back on again. The temp fix is to right click the controllers and choose power off and then turn them back on. You can then sometimes navigate the menu but you still can't press the button or else the above happens. My next test is relating to geforce experience. Not using it but having it installed may very well break steam vr.
Synthesis
That's very strange. That shouldn't persist after a full windows re-install, unless your Steam files are not on the boot partition. Thanks, -John C
Emexrulsier
Steam is on a totally different drive. I have tried many versions of steam vr and the beta and they both experience this issue. The odd random occasions I can press the button and the menu comes up fine but it does seem to be very rare this happens.
Synthesis
If it's on a different drive, then reinstalling Windows wouldn't make a difference since there are still Steam/SteamVR files remnant from the problem. It might even be the drivers. Try using this app to remove any nonessential drivers as well as Vive drivers and reinstall them.
