Nichibokun
Hi there, I recently made a Thread, in which I described a problem with my new VIVE. The problem was, that I wasn't able to see anything on my VIVE Display. I got a very fast response tho, in which it was suggested, that I may use another HDMI Cable. And it worked, the display was finally showing something! After that I got my cable replaced with the warranty I have on it in my local store. But the same problem appeared again ? I told myself that I was just quite unlucky and gave that one also back, waited another 3 days and now I'm on my third cable But the HDMI part is still not working ? Is it like a known issue with the cable or something ? I tried to google it, and a user on reddit basically described the same problem https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/83ovhb/htc_vive_3in1_cables_are_total_garbage/ Right now, I'm playing on like a 50cm cable which ofc isn't enough for me to play on roomscale like I'd wish to I can replace the cable any time I want at my local store, but it just doesn't seem right to be on my third cable and still not being able to play VR to it's full extend Any tips/tricks or has anyone else made the same experience ? Synthesis
I guess I should ask what you're doing with your cable. Do you have some kind of management solution or a ceiling mount? Is it possible you've rolled a chair over your cables? They do occasionally need to be replaced, but it's almost always because they've suffered some damage. One cable might go bad but I'd be very surprised if you'd get three bad cables in a row without some other factors. Did you try bypassing the linkbox already?Thank you, -John C
Nichibokun
Yes, I tried bypassing the linkbox with no success tho I take good care of the cables I have here, so I there's no way I run em over with a chair Maybe things I should mention: When I plug in the other HDMI cable which was supposed to connect linkbox and pc into the vive and the pc, it works, but then my cable lenght is gutted I'm gonna get a new 3-in-1 cable the next couple of days, but for now the local shop gave me another hdmi cable with an adapter to extend the shorter one because there was no other cable that would fit inside the vive there This was the temporary solution my local market gave me to try, but this also doesnt work It says something about an "HDCP" Error, so basically the same message I get when I plug in the 3-in-1 cable But when I plug in the blue marked cable directly into the pc, it works for some reason The other cable as mentioned is too big for the Vive I do not have a ceiling mount or anything else like that I'm not quite sure what else to mention here Hope this gives a little more insight
Nichibokun
Okay, small edit: The HDCP Window says I should look at my protocols to extract more information but I can't drag and drop the txt files in here, any tips ?
Synthesis
Adapters don't usually work. You're going to want the original cable or as close to it as possible. The other thing I'd suggest is check the ports. Maybe there's some foreign debris in there that's gumming up the connection points?Having all your cables go bad so quickly for no apparent reason seems extremely unlikely.Thank you, -John C
Nichibokun
Everything is clean in there, I might be just hella unlucky. Would you be able to help more if I'd send the Error protocols in ? I thought so that adapters wouldn't work, but it was just for trying anyways :I I also tried to use the HDMI part of the 3-in-1 Cable on other devices just to make sure, and it also didn't work there. I know that like HDMI Cables are more sensitive but this is just a big oof
Synthesis
It's quite an unusual situation. I don't think I've ever come across that many bad cables in such a short period of time. SteamVR system report isn't going to tell us anything about the cable unfortunately. Good thinking testing the cable elsewhere. I assume you were able to get a standard 3rd party HDMI cable to work on the HMD?Are you still waiting for a further replacement 3-in-1?Thank you, -John C
Nichibokun
The only cable I have rn which I can use the Vive with is the one that got sent in with it, the short one which was supposed to connect linkbox and pc, I would like to try other cables too but it's quite hard to find a good HDMI Cable which actually thin enough to fit into the Vive yet long and sturdy enough to give me a good VR experience without instantly dying, but as soon as I find a good one I'm gonna grab it and test it aswell. And yes, I'm currently waiting for my new 3 in 1 cable tho it should arrive in the next couple of hours or so. And if that one doesn't work aswell, it's gonna be really upsetting because even tho I'm playing on a really short cable, it was quite frankly one of the best gaming experiences I ever had So I really don't want to give it back
Nichibokun
Alright, got some news and I am so confused. Got my new cable, and this time the cable actually works on other devices like my TV or monitor etc, but it does not work on my Vive now for some reason ? I am actually so confused on what to do, because the cable itself is not damaged apparently, but it just does not work with the Vive ? I'm still getting an HDCP-Error That said, the Vive works when I'm playing on the shorter cable ? Did I mess up the settings or what else am I doing wrong ? I am so confused at this point, but atleast I know it's not the cable anymore
Synthesis
That is very strange. Did you try the 3-in-1 with and without the Linkbox? I can't imagine a reason for it to work with everything else but not Vive. Could you get a System Report for me and send it in a PM?Thank you, -John C
