@MaxenceHL These a whole body of research into this that extends into the mid 1980's. I can't really cite one paper as it's been common knowledge that higher framerates improve user comfort, not just in VR but also with traditional monitors. In VR, there is the added component of user-motion. As the user is able to whip their head (viewpoint) around, screen tearing becomes a major issue. More frames mean less screen tearing making VR projections perceptually appear more "solid" and present. Screen tearing factors heavily into the 90hz standard and directly affects user comfort.

90hz is compromise more than anything and is what we consider the bottom end for PCVR in terms of comfort. In 2014-2016 it was first possible to get 90hz OLED displays en masse from OEMs like Samsung and it was possible to get GPUs composite for both eyes at 90Hz. Rendering above 90hz is ideal and where VR is heading but GPUs and rendering engines can't currently support this at scale and no OEM is mass-manufacturing high refresh rate displays in the form factor required for VR headsets. Index is using a custom display from a smaller manufacturer which inherently limits their production volume and few end-users can even drive the expanded framerates due to the GPU/game engine bottleneck.

Imagen gaming at 30HZ! on a VR HEADSET, jesus!, I remember the days before monitors were 60hz.. I think 90hz - 100hz is 100% fine, and a perfect location to start with, I see no issues here.

60HZ is also a great standard, but not for VR (maybe for some) I don't suffer with motion sickness, would be great if the next headset is 100hz, whatever happened to the COSMOS doing mobile phone connection as was shown in pre-release videos and images and trailers, will the headset run at a phones HZ, or the headsets HZ...  is the cosmos ever going to get a connection for mobile devices? or was that a feature that was skipped or is it coming with a future faceplate.

Was used but in theory in good conditions. Was working without problems in last year.

Tested the VRAM using GPUMemTest and seems ok, not sure if these programs can capture these kind of errors.

Purchased before going for VR, but seemed good enough for my needs. Planning to upgrade to 2070S for next projects, but so far I need it working.

Nope those sorts of apps wont detect that,  and yeah I guessed as much that it was used, and a year is enough for it to finally die, my guess it was being used under heavy load, or the owner refused to state it had artifacting, like i said, even brand new cards can get artifacting, it's sometimes like the lottery. or a CPU OVERCLOCK, some will overclock higher than others.. Like, 2 people can have an i9-9900k and 1 may get 4.5ghz, the other could get 4.7ghz..

Sorry man, one plaster to this would be UNDERCLOCK THE GPU, may or may not resolve anything, but again, it'll be a PLASTER!, and a 2070S is perfect

Sorry didn't understood there was questions 🙂

I have a KFA2 (Galax) GTX 1070 EX, no OC, no underclock, BIOS provided from the producer.

But I purchased it on Ebay even if from a top seller, so maybe something is starting to go wrong....even if I didn't understood why only with a single application (the one I need now unfortunatelly!).

Was it brand new, sealed never used... any signs of use?

They probably used it for bitcoin or datamining, that or they used it so much it made it fail, you should never buy a GPU USED without knowing anything, it's an old 1070 past it's prime, more than likely used so much, GPUS can suffer performance issues depending on circumstances. It's going to be a GPU issue..

Sorry you can't do anything, as I said, ARTIFACTING is more or so usually a VRAM issue, it's more than likely been overclocked (NOT BY YOU) but the other user and ruined or something, a top seller doesn't mean nothing, you can be a top seller sell like 10x 2080tis that were used and were used for mining... that's extremely bad..

Also a 1070 is near MINIMUM requirements, that's a pretty bad GPU for VR.. you should be using higher.. yes cards like 1070, 290X e.t.c can be used, but it's the game requirements you should look at! demanding more from a GPU than it can actually do is bad.. you should never do that... like I said, certain applications and games..

    http://www.playtool.com/pages/artifacts/artifacts.html
Just one site, plenty of sites that can explain artifacting.

Once a GPU develops artifacting, there's like nothing you can do... sorry man, you can put plasters on it, or maybe even try to hold out, but at the end, it can get worse..

    @VibrantNebula @SanityGaming

The GPU is working well in any other case, not sure why can start behaving in this way only in VR and only in this app, and only after a Vive update.

What's your GPU... you've not answered any of the questions. and so what? you can buy a brand new 2080TI and it can have artifacting... and it can be EVGA , ASUS e.t.c hell even AMD cards have artifacting, you can overclock or run certain programs sometimes they won't artifact until after sometime e.t.c   VR GAMES and VR APPLICATIONS are more demanding than regular games..

  5. Thanks to some great news and now soon being able to buy the ELITE, I need vr games.
    I'm only interested in the following categories;

    1. Horror
    2. Shooters
    3. Action

I already own a few games.

    1. Arizona Sunshine
    2. PayDay 2
    3. Gorn
    4. Star Trek: Bridge Crew
    5. Skyrim
    6. The Forest
    7. VRChat because it has some well made horror worlds.
    8. Half Life; Alyx (Comes with the Elite)

I can't afford beat saber, I'd love it, but sadly it's too much, I wish It was on viveport. Same as "The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners"

  6. I was just wondering if anyone can confirm how games run (fps and smoothness wise) with this card. And how's movie watching, 290X is practically the minimum for this headset, has anyone experienced any issues whatsoever on this card,  I run games perfectly fine at 2560x1440 on my 32inch monitor, though I also play some games in crossfire as i've got 2,

I have an 8GB Sapphire Vapor-X,  not a regular 290X that was 4GB, the 8GB were a limited edition set. I can run most games at 60FPS+ at high-ultra, even modern games, some games medium, never needed to play any games in lowest settings.

Anyone that derails or says anything not related to the exact above will be derailing, and posting offtopic stuff, i've made this clear STAY ON TOPIC... NO THIS OR THAT, BUY THIS, BUY THAT...

So Redeemed my code on the box and got the six month vive port thing, but there is no code for half life alyx, is there something i'm missing?

HTC screwed up on this, I was given a code for free by a friend, and only got 1 item 6 months member... HTC said we need the BOX serial and more, my friends doesn't have that...  and he doesn't want to share his headset id number with me.

Apparently you contact them give them some serial numbers and more and they'll resolve it... i can't get mine resolved because HTC wont help me without the codes! from the headset or box..

@SanityGaming - They're still not accepting stock from us - I can ask again but it's really a one way communication type of scenario at their scale.

If they don't accept stock from you, then amazon must really hate someone, or something crazy is going on, because if you look yourself you'll notice macromart are appearing on amazon.co.uk selling it and the rift s and more..
    (RECENTLY) too.

I mean, they've removed the banner as mentioned, it could just be they're now starting to, just not at once take back people, as you are aware (i'm assuming) uk lock downs are easing! so if at all, hopefully it can be sold by JULY/AUGUST on amazon.co.uk

As my 300£ worth of vouchers expire in september! I'd hate to use them on a graphics card, or the new ROG PHONE 3, when i can provide the money to an amazing headset made by HTC!

I tried reaching to AMAZON to find answer myself, no provale, wouldn't answer me, maybe because it's private information between HTC and AMAZON, it's just terrible they'll allow MACROMART to sell stuff, but not HTC!

    -------
I'll await your response, thanks vibrant, your amazing!

  9. So amazon have removed the banner on there fulfiment program page where it says "we are prioritizing medicail stuff e.t.c"

I've seen more and more non medical stuff appearing on amazon, computer parts and more,  pimax headsets,  vr strap and more.... tons of stuff is now being upped on amazon. Even macromart seems to have got the go ahead to sell the Elite (headset only) on amazon..

Can you please give an update for HTC selling them directly via amazon (sold and fulfilled by amazon) 🙂

    10/10 really want one

  10. try it yourself?? if you have so many (thanks for destroying the gpu market)... obvious bitcoiner...  and obviously you don't own multiple.

[Hard answer yes, with technical applications and difficulty to many to list]  any way a blue aggressive answer from me to be more direct as you are again a liar.. yes you can, but you'd need to run a VM to run multiple steam accounts e.t.c and multiple graphics cards.

    [Easy answer]

Nope... as 97% of the time, as it'll be just the same as having a multi monitor setup, and screens showing the same thing.

I fully agree! It will be great to share our experience and recommendations for the best VR games, which not only covers gameplay but also things like game resolution, textures, immersion, control scheme  and general VR-playability etc.

This is one of the main reason, that and people can mention any issues with any VR HEADSET from HTC they've got, or experience, or anything that may help the community, and more., Plus any lookers for the HTC's can also check the forums!  There's many reasons.

Perhaps I can start by sharing a VR hidden gem game... "Crashimals" - found this gem of a game after checking out Youtube's recommended must play VR games. The gameplay is much like Angry Birds where you knock down objects by flying a RC plane releasing bombs on them. It's a simple but addictive game much like Angry Birds. The graphics are lush and vibrant and the animations are a joy to watch. The control scheme takes getting used to as you will need to use both wands to control your RC plane's trajectory to make bombing runs on the targets below. It's one of those games where a short playthrough always results in you wanting to keep playing until you realized how much time you had actually spent playing than you had anticipated. The game is available for free download at VivePort Infinity for VivePort subscribers.

    Thanks for the share.
I googled that came and it looks like a really fun cartoonie arcadic game! I'll be sure to add it to my games list!

  12. Have a business or company!
Prove you own it via papers of ownership, and more, sometimes requires a VIVE REP to show up at your place of ownership,

Show sales, Show your website, Show VAT registration or more..

Then if you can do that, you contact "HTC ENTERPRISE" or A department "Contacts can be found at the bottom of the site"
    https://www.vive.com/uk/support/contactus/  - UK

GO to vive.com in your own country and use the contact page

This technology is very expensive. I already have spent way too much on my PC computer components & PC gaming addiction over the years.

I'm possibly going to get into sim car racing on the PC. I have an extremely fast PC and a 34" ultra-wide, 21x9, high-end monitor. The sim car racing components I need/want will cost @ $1500. (wheel, pedals, etc) I'm considering this technology, yet have no way of experiencing what it will be like.

    How do we solve this?

Nothing you've said, says "Extremely fast pc" and the fact you mentioned a monitor of that size, shows it.. My motorized racing, force feedback, racing setup probably costs more. And the fact a price like a VIVE setup is an issues also shows this, or you'd be at INDEX or OCULUS, or PIMAX.  The price for a VIVE is 100% reasonable.

    Anyway. https://www.vive.com/uk/try-vive/

That's the UK version, depending on your location just google "Try Vive", will point you to your nearest shop that actually has one.  If you are in the UK you could contact game.co.uk, and ask where the nearest game is with a VIVE SETUP, but stores are shut.

And if you're american, contact whatever if any "Game stops" I believe your game shops are, or target, or walmart and find out the nearest shop is with a setup try VR headset

If you have a youtube channel with a few thousand subs, you maybe able to be sent a REVIEW kit, but you'll have to publish a review, prove you can make a competent one by sending in a past properly doen review video!

    @jagibson

What's the rush, are you dying from "COVID-19"?? Are you going to die on friday???

There's something called "Covid-19" and shipping and stuff is delayed by every place one earth.. nobody's going to rush to get you something..  You'll get it when you get it, there may even be a queue, now if you are dying from "Covid19" my sympathies if you are  (not a joking matter).. then contact HTC.. and I'm sure they'll do there very best!

This the the type of task that's currently best left to crowdsourcing as Steam's developer console lacks any compatibility checkbox to indicate full body tracking support. In lieu of an API driven methodology, this is best left to crowdsourcing at the moment as it would be a huge task to maintain a list. The most comprehensive list I've seen on this topic is this list. It saw alot of use when Knuckles launched but it seems to have fallen into disuse as the surge of launch activity has given way to regular daily activity. I really wish this list got more love - it's really helpful. I'd also note that a huge portion of content which has full body tracking are enterprise or otherwise private tools/apps that are not available to the public. Tools like Ikinema Orion are heavily used by Indie devs for MoCap.

I totally agree, it would be really great if some form of official website or something was update on a regular basis that would list all games.  And thanks for the link/site by the way, it helps a lot!

When you can't get out much and do physical activities being indoors and using full body sure helps!
