  1. Nice update! Unfortunately, I can't update the client to 1.0.12.7. No matter which USB port I try, it tells me the connection is too slow and I need to use USB 3.0 (which it is already connected to).
  2. I've been having stability issues with the most recent VBS version. Everything starts off working perfectly and then after about 10 minutes or so, It starts lagging and artifacting to the point of no longer being usable and it will not recover. I've had one 45 minute session without serious interruption, but other than that I have not been able to use my device. Prior to this update, I experienced only minor hiccups. I've been troubleshooting for a while but have not found a solution yet. Things I've tried: 1. Updated my router's firmware (Asus RT-AX56U). 2. Set wireless mode to AX only and channel bandwidth to 80mhz. 3. Enabled high performance mode in-headset. 4. Switched between various control channels. 5. Played around with various bitrates in VBS. I'll paste my router's log, could the error messges in bold be related? Thanks to anyone who might be able to help. 🙂 Jun 27 14:04:13 acsd: eth5: selected_chspec is 1003 (3) Jun 27 14:04:13 acsd: eth5: Adjusted channel spec: 0x1003 (3) Jun 27 14:04:13 acsd: eth5: selected channel spec: 0x1003 (3) Jun 27 14:04:13 acsd: eth5: txop channel select: Performing CSA on chspec 0x1003 Jun 27 14:05:06 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(530): eth6: Auth 7E:7C:7D:63:AA:0A, status: Successful (0), rssi:0 Jun 27 14:05:06 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(559): eth6: Assoc 7E:7C:7D:63:AA:0A, status: Successful (0), rssi:-46 Jun 27 14:16:44 wlceventd: wlceventd_proc_event(494): eth6: Deauth_ind 7E:7C:7D:63:AA:0A, status: 0, reason: Deauthenticated because sending station is leaving (or has left) IBSS or ESS (3), rssi:0 Jun 27 14:22:38 rc_service: cfg_server 2455:notify_rc restart_wireless Jun 27 14:22:39 kernel: CSIMON: CSIMON[1.1.0] Initialization Jun 27 14:22:39 kernel: CSIMON: M2M usr already registered ... 3. Streaming quality appears to be all over the place with this update. It feels like it's aggressively trying to maintain a latency target that's unrealistic for Wifi 6 (it might work better if you're on 6E or USB). I experienced a lot of artifacting and it regularly dropped down to unplayable levels of graphical fidelity. Not sure why, because with the previous version I had great image quality, manageable latency and very few dropouts (and if they occurred, it was only brief). I've only tested with dynamic bitrate on, will try later if disabling this makes a difference.
  4. How do you determine which countries to enable Wifi 6E for? Based on this list there are many countries that have either partially or fully adopted the standard, but are not supported by Vive. I don't understand the criteria that lead to support for Belgium (previous update) but not the rest of the EU. It seems arbitrary, can you elaborate?
  5. Understood about the Focus 3's positioning as an enterprise product, but -correct me if I'm wrong- weren't the Focus and Focus Plus positioned as enterprise products as well? They still had access to Viveport content. I'm a little surprised that so many titles are being developed for XR2, but the only way to play them is with a Quest 2 (I assume Pico will announce an alternative within the next few days though). I would imagine that having the best XR2 headset and an established storefront would make for an obvious combination, especially if there are any plans of releasing a more consumer oriented afforable XR2 headset in the future, but I admit I'm not privvy to all the pertinent details. VBS is great and streaming works very well, which is why I like my headset as much as I do. I didn't make myself clear regarding my SW#4. 🙂 I simply meant a selection of different Vive Reality Systems backgrounds to choose from, not a completely different OS - the current one works fine.
  6. The recent updates (particularly with regard to VBS) have been great, but as good as the Focus 3 currently is, there's always room for improvement. Here are some features I would like to see included in the future: Hardware New batteries should come with a sillicone cap for the charging port, to prevent damage from sweat. A stray drop could easily find its way to the exposed interals, causing a short. I understand there is now a narrow face gasket option (very nice), but I think a different kind of material other than pu-leather would also be much appreciated. I'd like some external Vive-branded IR illuminators to enable tracking in a completely dark environment. Software Please allow us to disable the controller prompt without defaulting to hand tracking in SteamVR. This gets awkward really quickly when you're trying to use a gamepad or keyboard and mouse (for seated games like Tetris or Bigscreen) and it randomly recognizes your hands as input devices. This is currently my biggest peeve with the device. There is a way to disable high performance mode (and reduce fan noise and airflow as a result), but I'd like a third option: fanless operation within a reduced thermal envelope for passive content consumption. Maybe combine with a 3DOF mode to eliminate tracking overhead and decreased brightness. I'd like to see the Focus 3 as a supported device in Viveport, and Viveport extended as a platform for XR2 content. Alternatives to the default Vive Reality Systems 2.0 would be nice. Better browser support is becoming a necessity. Native resolution streaming support in VBS would be much appreciated for increased text clarity.
  7. I feel like we're entering subjective audiophile-level territory where frame of reference and individual variation in perception start to matter more than any objective measurement. My experience with the Vive Pro 2 was that its visuals are better than Index, but I wasn't blown away by the difference. The performance cost for the added clarity wasn't worth it to me, because I was constantly in reprojection (2080Ti) which caused unbearable ghosting. Lowering the graphical settings made it easier to hit 90 or 120 FPS, but also made the difference in quality seem kind of trivial. There's a high compute cost for native pixel-for-pixel rendering and I feel like I ultimately end up with a higher quality image in the Focus 3, even though it's downsampling, upsampling, compressing, decompressing, adding filters, sharpening, etc -- it tricks me, but I find the trickery really convincing so it works for me. You mentioned before how the grainy, soft nature of the image was really bothersome. I definitely noticed that before this update but no longer do. The sweet spot on these lenses is very small, so IPD and positioning are very important. I don't think this headset works very well ergonomically for people with sunk eyes; you really need to get your eyeballs close to the lenses. That might account for the difference in experience. I've been playing Wanderer and I am genuinely blown away by how good it looks.
  8. That was me. I'm streaming over Wifi using a dedicated Wifi 6 router (RT-AX56U) which is located in the same room. VBS now skips the step where you have to connect to your network, so I can't see what speed I'm getting, but it used to show between 860 and 1200 mbps. I recognize the viewport reprojection you're describing and I can trigger it by moving my head quickly from side to side. It rarely happens during normal play, though. I'd be curious to learn if people with 6E routers don't have this issue, unfortunately my country hasn't approved 6E yet.
  9. I have this issue with certain audio devices, so I just work around it by setting it to a source I know the Focus 3 will recognize and take over from. If I don't do this prior to starting VBS, I've found it to be impossible to switch afterwards. With regard to the streaming improvements: I'm really impressed with what I've experienced thus far (200mps, quality, maximum sharpness basically looks like a wired Vive Pro 2). I played without issue for 30 minutes, but then it started to stutter (video and audio) and wouldn't recover (it was still playable, just not as flawless as before). I was using their experimental TCP mode, so I might have to disable that or lower my settings a bit. It could also be related to their new adaptive bitrate feature struggling to find the correct balance. Based on fan noise, the hardware is being pushed a lot harder now.
  10. I don't own a Quest 2, so I can't compare directly. Based on my history with other HMD's (Vive, Vive Pro, Vive Pro 2, Index, Varjo VR-3) I like the Focus 3 best for roomscale SteamVR gaming, in spite of it not being native resolution. Maybe it's a little worse in some other areas (like clarity), but it's a lot better in terms of comfort (wireless, weight distribution, geometric stability, etc). Whether the value proposition versus the Quest 2 is there, I can't judge, because at 4x the price it's probably not justified for most people. Guy Godin (developer of virtual desktop) has said that anything above 100mbps is entering the realm of diminishign returns, so I wouldn't assume that 200mpbs offers double the quality. All that being said... I still would very much appreciate Vive doing whatever they can to improve in this area. 🙂
  11. Don't let it hold you back; it still looks very good and is perfectly usable. We just feel there's untapped potential here.
  12. It would be nice to have a slider for things like bitrate, refresh rate and resolution. Hide it under some advanced settings menu with a little caveat about performance and I think most users would appreciate the extra versatility. I mean, it is a little odd that I have the exact same options whether I'm streaming via Wifi or USB, when clearly USB should be able to support higher bandwidth streaming.
  13. Solved, needed factory reset.
  14. I can't get my Focus 3 to display the default home environment, it's stuck in a loop. I turned the unit on, the Vive Focus 3 logo shows up and then it displays the circular loading image which it won't break away from. While loading, the sound works, but that's all. It's as if it's struggling to recognize my room, even though nothing has changed in that regard (plenty of light as well). I've tried restarting the device several times, to no effect. I've also gently cleaned the cameras with a soft cloth, thinking maybe something obstructed it, but no help. What are my options?
  15. Only in the tutorial and when you turn off the HMD using the menu button. I do not understand why this feature isn't extended to overall navigation and would very much appreciate its inclusion at some point in the future; in certain use cases the controllers are simply an inconvenience.
  16. It's kind of a cool product, but it's really neutered at the same time. As far as I can tell, the only input it currently accepts is from an Android phone running a specific chipset; there's no hand tracking yet and there doesn't appear to be a button for gaze control on the HMD. That rules out so many potential customers, it seems like a rather ill conceived launch. @HTC: any chance of being able to pair the Flow with Cosmos or Focus controllers in the future? How about supporting SteamVR streaming using Vive Business Streaming? I'd love to pre order one, but I have to be able to do something with it. Convince me, please!
  17. I am so confused by this! Admittedly, I don't have a Quest 2 to compare, but your experience regarding clarity completely differs from mine. With VBS set to quality and 100 mbps, the picture looks great. The only thing holding it back is the inherent limitation of Wifi streaming, so motion clarity isn't as good as a wired connection -- static image quality is at least as good as my Index. If your Quest 2 looks as good as my Focus 3, I would be astonished. I would almost think you might be experiencing some issues with your network, although that would affect your Quest 2 experience negatively as well.
  18. I just bought this and am very happy with it (not affiliated with seller in any way). Specifically made for the Vive Focus 3 and the build quality is solid. https://unboundvr.eu/htc-vive-focus-3-travel-case?sqr=vive focus 3&
  19. Hi, I have two issues using Firefox Reality and am unsure whether it's a browser or an HMD (Vive Focus 3) issue. 1. Many websites aren't accesible due to their security certificate being out of date (which they aren't, because I can access the site using a different browser on any other machine just fine). It gives me the option to ignore the warning, but it won't let me select it and continue. 2. I can't download anything to the HMD such as different backgrounds or browser addons. I feel like the first issue lies with Firefox but the second seems like Firefox doesn't have permission to write to local storage. However, I have found no way to give it permission. Any thoughts?
  20. Agreed. Hopefully they implement gaze control as an alternative to the controllers (using the button on the left side of the HMD, similar to how Index does it). I don't necessarily want to mess with combining Index controllers with the Vive Focus 3, but there are still plenty of games that I would prefer to play seated with a gamepad.
  21. I experienced significant frame loss (VBS Console showed error code 601 "dropped frames"). In headset, the dropped frames were very common (maybe every 5 to 15 seconds or so). I tried various bitrates and quality settings, but to no avail. It feels like there was no smoothing at all during the dropped frame interval and it was very jarring and honestly not suitable for long term use. In between dropped frames, things felt considerably smoother than before though, so if you can somehow manage to achieve this level of performance without the frame dropping issue, that would be really nice. I opted out of the beta for now, and immediately noticed how it felt a bit 'swimmier'. Looking forward to the next update!
  22. I was wondering if any changes are planned on this front? I'd love a more convenient way to pay for titles from the entertainment catalogue (such as Climbey). A seperate category for native Vive Focus 3 apps in VIveport would be amazing.
  23. Cool, hope you enjoy it. 🙂 I have some more suggestions I'm throwing out into the ether, hopefully Vive reconignizes the added value. 7. Allow for navigation using only the button on the left of the HMD using a gaze pointer (similar to Index). Sometimes when seated, the controllers are superfluous and cumbersome. You already built this for the tutorial, why not extend it to include the other menus as well? 8. Make the device mountable in Windows as an external drive to more easily export/import files. 9. Provide some way to charge the battery outside of the headset (external cradle perhaps?) to allow hot swapping of batteries and continous deployment.
  24. Hi, So I've been using my Vive Focus 3 for a few days now and must congratulate the team on some very nice engineering - I really enjoy the build quality and the overall experience. If I may, I would like to make some small quality of life recommendations. 1. Widen the bandwidth of the brightness slider; currently setting it to minimum is maybe a 10% decrease compared to maximum. This should help with battery life and lens artifacts. 2. Allow for adjustment of RGB values, for those who prefer a warmer or cooler display. 3. Provide a low power mode with decreased clock speeds, and reduced fan RPM's. 4. The platform appears to be open to games, maybe make this more apparent to developers; porting Quest games seems to be extremely easy. 5. Provide the option for different face gaskets (narrow, wide, glasses, no glasses, PU leather, antibacterial cloth). 6. Allow for y-split controller charging when the headset is turned off and the battery is connected to the mains. Thanks again for making a really nice headset and I hope to see the platform grow; the hardware deserves widespread adoption.
  25. Figured it out after many hours of troubleshooting. It appears the issue of not being able to access the store (or my profile) is completely unrelated to my network. Instead, the issue stems from not having selected the correct timezone/region. I changed it to a different one and suddenly everything worked.
