  1. Morning all. Just wondering if there it contain is another update due soon and if so what will contain? Cheers! Fink.
  2. Well good for you, sounds like you've made your decision and can go get that refund and move on. I admire people who can make a choice and follow through with positive action instead of hanging around a forum and endlessly complaining about the Cosmos, not that I object to people voicing their opinions , quite the contrary, its just not the place to be effective, if you have real concerns about the product report it directly to product support or write to HTC\Vive directly you might get a official response. I might be wrong but I think these forums are for users to report technical issues, provide feed back, log cases and upload their data so that the engineers have a real chance to work on and resolve the issues which is what I want, the product to improve and develop before the focus moves somewhere else and not read about about people's negative feelings which to be honest is just unpleasant and a lot of which noise here no offense. No one is going to listen except other pissed off people which I suppose is good therapy πŸ˜‰ I've read other more relevant posts which I've found useful and helpful. As I said there are other places for complaining and if it sounds like I'm being defensive on behalf of Vive, not at all, I think they have a obligation to continue to improve the product and they have said as much themselves so for the people who remain let's help them do their job with data I'm looking forward to the next update and improvements. Cheers! Fink.
  3. Hi @lamyipming How long do you get on a full charge using the Cosmos? Oh and can you post the link you ordered from pls πŸ™‚ Thanks Fink.
  4. I haven't had a rant for a while so here's a good opportunity. Actually people I'm using Chrome and it gives me the option to translate automatically so not sure what the fuss is about mind you this is on a PC not a phone. Pluggins are a handy option as well. As for a class action law suit, lol come on really? (you obviously have never been involved with Lawyers) I admit there are a few things to be a bit unhappy about especially at launch (their marketing team can be a trifle creative on their claims but that's what they do and you shouldn't believe everything you read from a sales blurb) and even now 8 months down the track but they have shown good will to existing customers and are continuing to make efforts to resolve or improve product issues as best they can within the design limits of the device so instead of whining about a decision that you made to buy the product 😭 (there was more than enough information about the issues it has or had on the Net from day one you just had to make the effort and look) either ask for a refund and have done with it or be part of the solution and provide positive feedback and information so C. T. and his mates can continue to work on fixing them for us. I for one prefer that outcome just say'in and stay positiveπŸ‘ Fink. 😎
  5. Hi Vive employees. Is there any update on the availability and specs for the AR face-plate for the Cosmos? Also will it work with the Cosmos with optical tracking or only the Cosmos Elite or both? Finally here is some feed back on the Vive.com Website information for VR headsets that you may or may not want to pass on. I see the "External tracking face-plate" is available now (in Australia) for the Cosmos series ($399 ouch! Just say'in) on this website but it doesn't have any base stations or controllers (other than the optical controllers) available for it under that section. It just says: Get Half-Life: Alyx with purchase. Precision dominates. (I already have the game so now I just want the precision if you know what i mean πŸ˜‰) I also see two different types of controllers and base stations available for different products, the Pro and Vive series below it which is confusing to the consumer and indeed I have read on these forums of at least one person buying the wrong combination controllers and base stations because of it. It's not that I don't know which to buy (I do read these forums) but I want my consumer rights to be protected by complying with the recommendations from the seller on their website (not just a reference to a chat on a forum because HTC\Vive support have said previously they don't recognize any recommendation made on this forum as it is "unofficial" as far as they are concerned) just in case there are any faults, disputes or mistakes after the purchase. I hope you find this topic informative and constructive and look forward to you answer re the AR face-plate πŸ™‚ Cheers! Fink.
  6. Careful of this one if you have a Dell but it looks like they have issued a fix. https://mspoweruser.com/hp-fixes-bsod-issues-via-windows-update/?fbclid=IwAR2QgZYTk9UjBc3keke2OLVCuR_k08JfCfjvAmywkxVWFBJAtk5Vz6NAlhI fink.
  7. I also asked a similar question but never got a response hopefully you will. Fink
  8. Hi @Dickytwo As always it depends on your requirements and what you are prepared to work with. The tracking has improved vastly since it's release and they have done a lot of good work on the device but there are still tracking issues. It is still very sensitive to lighting conditions and what you have on your walls to track optimally. If your walls are plain or too white it won't track , if you have too much or too little light it won't track so you would have to setup a room appropriately for it's use. I have setup my study so that it works every time without any problems (my wife complains sometimes) but if you are prepared to use it within a narrow set of environmental conditions then it will work just fine. As for the tracking as I said it has improved a lot but if you hold the controllers too close to your HMD or in front of each other to occlude a controller or even low down or very high above you (but in front) it still loses it's shit so to speak. I understand that they are continuing to work on these issues going forward and may be able to resolve some or most of it with further firmware updates but you have to be very patient and i don't expect them to be able to resolve all of them due to the hardware limitations imposed by the choice of technologies for this model HMD but i might be wrong maybe a employee would like to comment on that. In retrospect and knowing what I know now I would have preferred to have waited bought the Elite since I have had to setup a room especially for its use anyway to avoid the chronic tracking issues that we are still experiencing 6 months or so down the track. Also beware that they have not provided a viable upgrade path for OG Cosmos owners as it is almost the cost of a new HMD when you include everything that you need the cost is prohibitive unless you don't care about how you spend your money. Look at the cost of a face-plate, at least two steam tracking devices and compatible controllers you may as well have just bought the elite. If you own a original Vive it's a bit more palatable financially you just need the face-plate as you already have the other devices. So that's the gist of it as I see it so far. I hope it gives you some information to help towards making your decision. I have adapted to the above mentioned limitations and I am enjoying using the device daily and it works well with the software that I use it with (I also bought the wireless kit and that works really well I have to say) it is basically a good product (with caveats) and I hope that they will continue to fix the remaining issues with inside out tracking and if I can get a good price on a upgrade to light house tracking somehow I will probably do that too or if not then there's always the next gen HMD' which are still a ways off I think but I'm in no hurry. Fink.
  9. Hi @stvnxu Try this , it's more fun and definitely more satisfying if you create your own. All the software and components are free BTW. πŸ™‚ Fink.
  10. That's interesting. I wonder if you went the other way and changed the colour of the controller lights, say with a coloured film, to something more towards the red end of the spectrum (longer waves) it would be easier to detect under normal lighting conditions? Just a thought. Fink
  11. Hi all. Has anyone tried full body tracking with the Microsoft Kinect and the base Cosmos configuration with optical controller tracking? I have old Xbox One Kinect sitting around that I only use to pause Videos when my hands are full so I thought I might re-purpose it for use in VR. I'll probably give it a try anyway but I thought maybe someone had tried it and could chime in on whether it was worth the effort or not? Cheers! Fink
  12. Sounds like a setting in Nividia CP. Do you have VRSS on or pre-rendered frames set to more than 1 in Nvidia control panel 3D settings? Maybe reset everything to default settings you or a program might and tweaked some setting in the control panel Fink.
  13. I asked the same question is another post but I didn't get any definitive answer. I'm reticent to invest more money until I know which direction Vive is heading in that respect. I'm interested in this product https://tg0.co.uk/etee/ which works with the Vive Cosmos according to their response to me but it won't be available until at least December and by that time there may be new products on the market that will work with this tech so I guess we have no other option except to wait and see or take a gamble. I agree the old wands are awful to use especially for a long time. Something will turn up. Fink
  14. Hi @VibrantNebula Thanks for your view and pointing out various aspects of the process of bringing a product to market as I'm sure most of us working for larger to medium sized companies are aware it is always a challenge fraught with difficulties but to be sure, if its profitable and in line with the organisation's strategy then it will happen. My post though is not about" how" it is about which type of controller and when it might become available. Also what everyone's thought's are on this "eete" controller (I've seen a few videos of it working well with Half Life recently) and seeing that Vive already has awareness of this tech e.g. the use Vive trackers with it and their attendance at the "Vive Developer Jam 2020 London" if it might be a direction they are moving in considering their competitors are making strident advances in that direction already. Hey we've all invested a fair amount of money in our devices so far, aren't you interested in whether or not you're going to get hand and finger tracking for your device anytime soon as opposed to the old Vive controllers? If not what are the alternatives? I think it reasonable to ask considering out vested interest as consumers. As for getting developers to all get onboard with new controllers ,well that never happens 100% anyway, just look at all the compatibility issues with the offerings on both Viveport and Steam, hopefully the new developments and investments for Open XR\VR standard will help with that going forward. Finally I understand, especially from previous comments made by "employees" on this forum that there are limits to information that can be given out due to NDA's and company policies but I must say that the more you can inform your customers the more you engender product loyalty and support going forward if we can see at least part to of the way ahead, it's a strategy that works well for other commercial entities and at the and of the day "secrecy sucks" from a end user perspective . Give me better control please πŸ™‚ Fink.
  15. Hi All. The engineering team has done some great work to improve the controllers over the last few months for sure but as we all know, there are limits to the current design so I wonder if anybody has had a look or tried one of these Etee controllers to enhance your VR setup? One of the reasons I'm not motivated to add a tracking face plate and base stations to my vanilla Cosmos (aside from the over the top asking price) is the old outdated 6 year old clunky design controllers you have to buy with it, let's be real about it their design is old and behind the times (sorry about the anti plug) and knuckles as an alternative aren't available in Australia and if you have a problem there are warranty issues even if you do find a way to get some. I don't know, maybe Vive has something in the works already but we'll never know until they are ready to talk about it company policy being what it usually is to those outside of the company so in the meant time, this might be a good addition t your setup. Also to the Vive people on the forum what are your thoughts? I see there is a video "etee at the Vive Developer Jam 2020 London" so we know there is some knowledge and collaboration with the company to whatever degree. Unfortunately the video is crap it isn't informative at all it just has some canned music and a few people waving controllers around for a minute or so and doesn't tell you anything much better video here looks like the way forward. To any Vive people on the forum I'd be interested in your comments since they use Vive trackers at the moment. Cheers! Fink '
  16. Hi all. Beta 1.0.11.2 seems to track a litter better, especially at the side of the head and occlusion in the front is much less, also with 1.0.11.1 I was getting a USB error message when shutting down the headset but that seems to have gone now. I didn't get to see if the the revive darkness fix is still in place but I am sure it will be, I'll give it a try tomorrow. So all in all an improvement and another good update, its a few steps closer to making the tracking work as good as the tech will allow so appreciate the effort, keep em coming. Thanks for the update. Fink.
  17. Hi mate. I've only played for about 1 hour so far but yes, it is probably the best game optimised for VR, aside from Lone Echo, that I've played. My average frame rate never drops below 89.9 so I'm really happy with it as is my visual cortex. As far as the settings go, I just use the defaults because I have endlessly tweaked settings to get games that just aren't optimised for VR working e.g. Fallout 4 and Subnautica and at the end of the day the more time that you spend in VR the more your brain adapts to your environment so after a relatively short time you just accept your situation in game as long as it flows and nothing ganky or jerky shocks you out of the immersion. In other words you stop being so critical of every pixel and frame drop because it isn't so important to the experience your enjoying. Plus it looks and feels great to me as is but if I get time maybe I'll try it with the wireless adaptor and see how that goes. I hope this does become the new standard for developers to aspire to going forward. Oh by the way, as far as tracking goes there are still the issues when close to the head and occlusion of controllers but generally still very playable, hopefully there will still be improvements as I am interested in the AR face plate which will need better tracking to make it viable or it probably just won't be competitive in the emerging market. Fink
  18. Hi @VibrantNebula Can you tell us if there are any plans anytime soon for a updated controller (from the v1.0 version) for use with the Cosmos face-plate and if so will they have advanced features planned like hand and finger sensing incorporated into them? Thanks Fink.
  19. I've just tried the update and I'm glad that when I crouch down the floor doesn't move anymore or stay at a odd height for a while. Much better now thanks. The controller occlusion in the front is a bit better with only minor lose of tracking in certain positions though that seemed to be better for a while in my case but it still loses tracking temporarily at the side of the head when the controller gets close to the camera. I don't get that as this HMD has cameras's at the sides specifically for that purpose which others don't e.g. Samsung's HMD which only has two in the front and that doesn't lose tracking at the side of the head at all, so what is the issue here, do these side camera's not resolve images at close range or has it to do with data integration? This is not a complaint BTW I'm just curious as to the nature of the technical issue since I have a interest in the tech. Otherwise good update keep them coming πŸ™‚ Fink.
  20. Hi all I've recently read that the tracking face-plate only has half of the sensors of the original Vive. Is this factual? Also if it is correct, will that effect the quality of the tracking or introduce limitations in comparison say to the original Vive tracking? Conversely if this information is incorrect what is the tracking like in comparison to say the Vive pro? Is there any difference? Thanks Fink
  21. Hi double click the left hand "VIVE" button to bring up the steam VR Dashboard.
  22. Yeah mate I can read.. though I don't necessarily interpret "Limited Responses" as no response, so I'm sure they will get to it when they are done with holidays as Stvnxu has done above. No rush on my part plus I think everyone is here to either find or give support to each other as well. @stvnxu I don't own Bone Works so I can't verify that for you but it does look like @joellipenta is having wider issues rather than just the wireless setup from looking at his latest comment. Checking the Windows event log under apps might give him a clue as to what happened at the time of the crash. Fink.
  23. Howdy. Got a new 3.0 A to A cable and no more grey screen and the temperature is the same though the frame-rate goes up and down even if I'm just in steam home. Fink.
