  1. When I startup my Vive Pro I always get crackling audio from it's headphones. If I turn my link box off, then on again, which restarts SteamVR it always comes good. I'm not really sure but I think it may have something to do with the latest SteamVR updates and headset firmware updates. Since the workaround is so simple and fast it's not really a big deal, just kinda annoying.
  2. OK, I tried both base stations power management options. Standby = turns off lasers only so it starts up faster, and Sleep = turns off lasers and motors (which is my preference). In both cases when you exit SteamVR the base stations emit a soft blue pulsating light (top middle). My 2.0 base stations run so smooth I cannot really feel the motors running so I cannot tell for sure that Sleep actually turns them off or not. However, in Standby mode SteamVR finds them much faster.
  3. @VibrantNebula Thanks for all that mate. I followed all that and now my 2x 2.0 base stations turn off after exiting SteamVR. I selected the power management option to turn off both lasers and motors. After SteamVR shutdown they both emit a soft blue pulsating light. Is that supposed to do this? When I restart SteamVR they seem to restart pretty quickly. First a white light on each which I think says they see each other, and then they turn solid green and I can see the lasers, and they then work fine.
  4. Maybe try removing any overclocking (cpu and gpu). I've found that overclocking these can lead to system instability.
  5. @Phr00t Good eye on the new performance priority option, thanks. I tried it and did not notice any difference. I also tried all this again this morning under brighter lighting and this did not make any difference compared to last night. So, maybe this beta is a little less light sensitive = a good thing. My IPD adjuster does not seem too sensitive like yours. I need to turn it quite a bit to get it to display. At least now it stays on a little longer so I can fine-tune it better.
  6. I just tried this beta and I hate to say it but it's certainly not any better (actually maybe a little worse) with bow and arrow games (eg. Lab Longbow) or slingshot games (eg. Angry Birds). Both of these are now unplayable. Tracking with the magic marker in Origin does seem a little better though and I never saw any low light warnings. I did notice one minor problem. When I double click the left controller Vive button to go into the steam menu to exit a steamvr game then click on it again to go back to the Vive Void, the bottom steam menu bar remains in the background. No significant tracking improvements since 1.0.7.1 imho. I really wish I could get my hands on the new Steam Faceplate module so I can just use my 2x 2.0 base stations and Vive controllers. Unfortunately this does not look like it's going to be available for a few months. I'll try this again tomorrow morning with a little brighter lighting conditions and see if I get a better result.
  7. Just for fun I thought I would try to install my Cosmos on my 2yo Alienware 17r4 gaming laptop (i7 7700hq 2.8/3.4Ghz, gtx1060 6gb, 32gb 2400 ram, 256mb ssd, 1 tb hdd). All I needed extra was to borrow a friend's Oculus Rift S mini DP adapter that came with his Rift S and does not need to use since he uses a desktop. Hard to believe that the much cheaper Oculus Rift S includes these for free but Vive doesn't. Anyway, it installed fine once I got past the error in the setup when trying to pair my controllers. The setup said to press the Vive button to pair but this did nothing. Drilling down a bit I found I needed to press the Vive and an upper controller button and then it paired fine. Actually works pretty well, much better than I expected. Of course I need to lower graphics setting, including SS quite a bit compared to my i9 9900k/gtx1080ti desktop but overall it still works and looks great with most VR games (not so great with X-Plane 11 though). Tracking with the latest beta still kinda sucks, lol! At least now I will be able to monitor its progress.
  8. The Cosmos currently uses inside out tracking like Oculus Rift S and Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) VR headsets. It does not currently use external sensors like the original Vive or the current Vive Pro do (= base stations). Inside out tracking relies on cameras on the headset and sensors located on the controllers. Maybe do a bit of Googling for more detailed explanations. Also, you may not know it but is is bad practice to post using all capital letters. This is taken the same as someone yelling, lol!
  9. @Jakey If you actually want to learn just do a bit of research yourself via Google. Sorry but I'm not prepared to do this for you. What you don't want to do on these forums is give uneducated recommendations that might harm a product. I believe that I have given my best advice and alternatives based on my personal knowledge, including a recommendation to contact Vive Support for their advice before proceeding further. I do not think that any further discussion on this thread is warranted and I will not respond further. Cheers.
  10. Nice sleuthing mate.. I wonder what would happen if you made both Predict's true? I don't currently have my Cosmos connected or I would try this out myself. Thanks and cheers.
  11. Sorry mate but I do have over 20 years of radio controlled aircraft building and flying (and re-building, lol!) so I kinda know how most glues can effect most plastics. The solvents contained within many glues can cause permanent fogging. Glues like CA (crazy glues) are probably the worst offenders. As far as tapes go there is a big difference between simple cello scotch tape and proper double-sided mounting tapes. Mounting tapes provide a strong bond, are flexible, and there is no danger in fogging. Another alternative may be to use Velcro strips. Again I would strongly recommend the OP contacts Vive Support in order to get their recommendation as to the best way to proceed. I agree that this should not happen with an expensive set of goggles but like faceplate foam, many items do wear out and heat and humidity can play a part in this.
  12. I would contact Vive Support and ask them how best to do this. The solvents is many glues out there could end up fogging your lens imho. Maybe try using some thin strips of 3M/Scotch double-sided mounting tape.
  13. I have both (Cosmos and Vive Pro w/2x 2.0 base stations). I actually prefer the comfort/fit of the Cosmos, esp. its flip up screen. I also like the Cosmos's new Vive VR system (w/lense and Origin). The audio works well with both. Both work fine with wireless but the Cosmos requires a higher rated 21w battery pack which comes with the Cosmos wireless adapter kit. Except in very black background games I prefer the Cosmos display because I think it is a little clearer with a little less Fresnel lens circle effects. The Cosmos headset also seems to run a little cooler than my Pro because the Cosmos has a built-in front fan. Unfortunately the tracking on the Cosmos is pretty poor right now (still not as good as any other inside/out headsets) but hopefully this will improve in the near future. If this does not improve soon I will need to wait for the Steam faceplate module so I can then just use my current base stations/controllers. This is supposed to be coming out early next year for less than $200. When this comes out I will probably look at just using my Cosmos and put my Pro back in it's box as a backup and/or sell it. Your $'s so your decision but if I were you and could get A Cosmos for such a low price ($425) I'd probably go for it! It's only money, lol!
  14. The product description says that this is only compatible with the Cosmos. Not sure why? https://www.vive.com/ca/accessory/cosmos-converter/
  15. No on/off button = fail for my use. I like the on/off button on the Link Box because it makes it easier for me to easily switch over and run my Oculus Rift headset Once it's turned off there are no conflicts. I also like that when it's off there is no power going to the headset (that is, no standby lights) and my PC audio automatically switches back properly. Wireless (without a link box) works fine because just unplugging the wireless battery basically does the same thing.
  16. I agree, as soon as the Steam Faceplate module is available I will go for it. My only concern with this new module is that apparently it only has ~1/2 the number of headset sensors compared to the original Vive. Until then, my Cosmos is back in its box, under my pool table. I will continue to use my Oculus Rift cv1 w/2x sensors and Vive Pro. I do hope that the Cosmos works well with this new module because I do miss its flip-up screen and the Lense/Origin VR system.
  17. Ya, QC3.0 charging is another matter and obviously QC3.0 chargers will work better and charge faster with QC3.0 batteries like both the 17w and 21w Vive wireless batteries. The output voltages on both packs will remain the same 5v but the 21w will maintain voltage under load better than the 17w pack.
  18. @VibrantNebula Please stop using V (= voltage) to compare things. The correct thing is W (= watts = V x Amps). The Cosmos requires higher Wattage capable batteries (21W vs 17W). Since the usb output on both are 5v, this means that the max sustainable amps for each pack are going to be 17/5 = 3.4 amps for the 17w battery and 21/5 = 4.2 amps for the 21w pack. If you push these packs beyond those limits the battery voltage will drop off and this will probably cause your wireless system to stop working. So, this means that the quality of the Cosmos 21w battery is better and has a higher C rating (at least 21/17 = 24% higher), in Lion/Lipo battery talk. BTW, I've been flying large electric radio controlled planes and helicopters for almost 20 years now so I kinda know what I'm talking about.
  19. @EvanU5 If you google your threads title you will see lots of info on things you can try before sending your base stations back to htc for servicing. For example;
  20. Update on my wireless vive pro. My wireless adapter kit is also back in its box, under the pool table. While it did work very well with most of my VR games, it did not work well with X-Plane 11. The extra cpu it took to run xp11 was a little too much and this forced me to use much lower SS and xp11 graphics settings in order to maintain decent framerates. When xp11 goes to Vulcan in the next few months and then starts to take advantage of multi-threading, I will try wireless again. BTW, I', also looking forward to the Cosmos Steam faceplate module and will def try this when it comes out. While inside-out is nice and convenient, base stations and external Oculus sensors will always provide the best tracking imho. Maybe one day there will be a way to utilise both systems together, who knows?
  21. First of all you probably would be best to post technical type questions in the vive pro technical sub forum, not general. I have a similar setup (i9 9900K, gtx1080ti, 32Gb 3000 ram) and I have not seen this problem. If you are overclocking your cpu and gpu you may want to try them back to stock. I've found overclocking does not doo all that much for me and can cause system instability. Also, make sure your drivers are up to date and you disable any usb power savings. Otherwise, contact Vive Support and ask them for some help. Good luck.
  22. Ya, I'm looking forward to crossing off Japan and Blossom Time from my bucket list. After using my nice new Vive Pro McLaren limited version w/2.0 base stations (also wireless now, btw) for a couple of days now I gotta say I'm looking forward to a Cosmos lighthouse module. Much as I really love the dark/rich Blacks from the Vive Pro's display, I miss the Cosmos's flip up screen and more comfortable halo head strap. I'm also missing the Cosmos's Vive VR system with it's easy to use Lense. Tracking with the Valve 2.0 base stations is very good, maybe even a little better than my Oculus Rift cv1 w/2x sensors imho. Wireless battery life is also much better (~3 hrs) with my Vive Pro. The Wireless Vive Pro is still a bit CPU hungry though. Maybe a little better than the Cosmos. With some of my more demanding flight and racing sims I still need to dial down my SS ~15-25% to keep the same FPS performance. Hopefully this will improve in the near future as more sims like X-Plane 11 go to Vulkan, and hence better CPU multi-threading. Unfortunately I seem to be having a lot of problems getting used to the Vive Pro controllers, Esp. after using the Oculus Touch controllers for the last couple of years. The Cosmos controllers are actually pretty good imho. Too bad they do not support base stations. I might have to look at getting the Valve Index controllers when they are available in Australia. Maybe Vive will come out with similar controllers in the near future? In the meantime I will put my Cosmos back in its box and continue to use my wireless Vive Pro and tethered Oculus Rift cv1. I really do not need, or want, 3x VR headsets installed at the same time anyway, lol! Like the Cosmos, my Rift CV1 (thanks to OTT) plays very well together with the Vive Pro and I can use most of my VivePort games with both. Actually a bit better/easier to use together than the Cosmos and Vive Pro combo for some reason. Not sure why? I probably will not be posting much on this Cosmos sub-forum for a while but I will be monitoring its progress. Like others, I'm expecting big Cosmos improvements in the near future.
  23. Now I have a new Vive Pro I can see the difference in tracking, even compared to my good old .Rift cv1 w/2x sensors. Hopefully the upcoming Cosmos Steam valve module will work great. As much as I like my new Vive Pro I miss the flip up screen and comfortable headsttap. i do have to say that the dark blacks are fantastic with the Vive Pro.
