  1. Sorry but it's going to take a few more posters positive experiences before I'm going to take my Cosmos out of mothballs, lol! Hopefully there will be an new/improved beta soon.
  2. Sorry @davide445 if you read enough you will eventually find someone who says what you want to hear, lol! Last time I looked my wireless was only using one core. Stick with AMD if you want to save $'s but I think you will get better overall VR performance with Intel. Your $'s so your choice. Intel is favored by ~90% of gamers (incl VR) so maybe there is a reason for this? Ultimately, you will need to buy and try this yourself to find out for sure imho. Good luck mate.
  3. Both you guys should realize that the wireless adapter is pretty CPU intensive and needs a good GPU as well. I have a fairly strong CPU (i9 9900k w/cooler) and GPU (gtx1080ti, which I will probably look at upgrading later this year to nvidia's upcoming rtx3000 series, maybe a 3080ti?). While I do not notice much performance diffs on many simple games, more complex flight/racing sims can take a pretty big hit because many of these do not efficiently utalise CPU multi-threading. With these sims I get hit with ~20-25% lower performance (fps). This is the same for both my Vive Pro and Cosmos with the wireless adapter.
  4. These laptops have similar problems with other VR headsets like the Oculus Rift cv1. In most cases this was solved by updating the Vbios (video card bios, not just the motherboard bios). You should contact asus support and see if they can provide this and explain how to install it.. Good luck.
  5. @VibrantNebula Thanks for the info. I'm glad I got my Pro when I did. Cosmos lcd's are very good except in many games/sims that seem to have been designed around oled's. Maybe developers will cater to lcd screens better in the near furture.
  6. @stvnxu Thanks for the response mate. Too bad that the new SteamVR plate (= Elite) does not support the newer Vive Cosmos Lens/origin VR system since this is one of the most attractive features that I currently prefer with my Cosmos over my Vive Pro. Actually, the Vive Elite product description show the lens/origin pics on the Vive website. So, maybe this need to be corrected. So it would be fine to use the Cosmos Link Box/power adapter with my Vive Pro? Thanks.
  7. I recently saw this roadtovr report on Vive Headsets where they quote a Vive response that shows the only consumer PCVR products will be Cosmos and Cosmos Elite. The Enterprise products now only include Vive Pro-eye variants and the current Vive Pro, along with the OG Vive are now End of life / remaining unit sell-through. I'm not too sure that roadtovr always gets things correct and they have not actually named the Vive contact. I'll probably believe this once I see an official HTC/Vive report/blog. Anyway, probably worth a read; https://www.roadtovr.com/htc-vr-lineup-11-headset-packages-modular-strategy-mess/2/?amp If this is the case then there will be no longer be a Vive consumer headset with oled screens. Too bad because my Vive Pro has much better blacks/contrast in dark games/sims than my Vive Cosmos lcd screens.
  8. I guess I just thought it would be more useful if the public release version was discussed just in case there are minor differences between it and the beta version.
  9. Why are people posting on this beta version while it has been out in public release for +4 days now? Once a new beta comes out these beta threads tend to disappear.
  10. I saw this mod a couple of days ago and it seems to work great for me. Basically you just remove the back pads, then flip the long narrow one around and place it on the bottom edge of the triangular plate. Then attach the triangular pad. Try it, you may like it!
  11. @arknes Since you only have a Vive Pro wireless you may not know that the battery specs for each headset is quite different. The Vive and Vive Pro require a 18W battery and the Cosmos requires a 21W battery. Just something to keep in mind if you buy 3rd party batteries.
  12. @arknes I think the point @Beta_Tester was trying to make is that posting Vive Pro comments in the Cosmos sub-forum is not a very good idea. As you already know there is a Vive/Vive Pro sub-forum that you have posted to numerous times and that is the best place to post Vive Pro related concerns imho.
  13. I have a Cosmos and a Vive Pro w/2.0 base stations/controllers (unfortunately Index controllers are not yet available in Australia) so I may consider purchasing the $200 SteamVR faceplate. One question I have is if I change over to the new faceplate will it still work with the current Cosmos VR system (eg. Origin/lense) or does it need to only use SteamVR like my Vive Pro? Also, would I be able to use the Vive Pro Link Box or would I still need to use the Cosmos Link Box an if so would I be able to use the Cosmos Link Box with my Vive Pro in order to make switching between headsets easier? Thanks.
  14. Man I wish you Francophones would post in English and/or at least include a Google English translation. I'm often on a mobile and do not have easy access to a translator. I'd hate to miss anything important, lol!
  15. So, it does not sound like this beta 10.0.10.7 update is going to make me want to unpack my Cosmos and try it again. Maybe next time? In the meantime my Vive Pro is working very well, thank goodness.
  16. Update; Today's SteamVR beta update 1.10.19 seems to sorted out my Vive Pro audio problems. I did notice a SteamVR firmware update (sorry I cannot remember seeing what device it was for) when I started this up. After this I did a complete shutdown/restart and it now seems to be working fine. I hope it stays that way for a while!
  17. @jubbs We all know the current Cosmos tracking is pretty so-so and it requires good/even room lighting. I'm still confident that Vive will improve this over the next couple of months. Since I already have a Vive Pro w/2.0 base stations/controllers, I'm not really interested in the upcoming Cosmos SteamVR faceplate because the Pro's oled screens work so well (better than Cosmos in darkish games). I'll hang onto my Cosmos and hope it's tracking issues get sorted out soon. I have the Vive wireless adapter and it works very well with my Cosmos (actually a little better than with my Vive Pro for some reason) so I will probably use this wireless for games that require more room scale/standing than sitting. Up to you whether you are prepared to wait for these or not. If not, return it and find another headset after doing a bit more research this time. One lesson I learnt the hard way with my Cosmos it to NEVER pre-order anything VR, lol!
  18. @VibrantNebula I cannot find the article right now. I think you are right in that it may have been based on the number of physical indentations. Anyway, maybe we will eventually see actual specs from Vive one day and/or a YT tear down video. Thanks.
  19. When you actually know for sure, please let us know. I have also seen reports that the new steamvr faceplate has less sensors than both the OG Vive and Vive Pro. Thanks.
  20. @jubbs 2.5-3 hrs is kinda a long time for VR, even just in sims, imho. Hopefully a fan will help. If you are using the latest Beta I would opt out of beta back to the current public 1.0.9.6 because I think the tracking is a little better. The current tracking with 2-handed games is still not that great but if you make sure you do not get the controllers too close to each other and/or your headset I think you will find ways to make these games playable. I even managed to get Angry Birds slingshot to work pretty good once I found the sweet spot for the controllers. Hopefully Vive will continue to improve the Cosmos tracking.
  21. @jubbs I use mine in a nice air-conditioned room. Plus I have a desk fan blowing at me. This really helps to keep myself cool and sweat-free, and my headset cool and fog-free. This even helps keep the temps down on the wireless adapter (when I am using it).
  22. @davide445 There is no way that a faceplate swap to change the Cosmos lcd screens to oled is possible since the screens are an integral part of the headset and are not modular. None of the Cosmos variants are going to look as good in most dark game environments as the Vive Pro's oled screens imho (and I know because I have both). Hopefully in the near future developers will add in-game graphics options to help optimise lcd headsets. The Cosmos XR variant is an enterprise product so really does not come into play for most of us VR gamers. It has higher resolution front cameras for AR apps. Probably going to be another +5 years before we see this in consumer VR games/apps. https://www.vive.com/au/product/vive-cosmos-xr/
  23. @groslala I have both Vive Pro (w/2.0 base stations/controllers) and a Cosmos (that I pre-ordered). The Vive Pro is by far a better quality headset imho. I find both headsets very comfortable and the audio on both is good. I like the Pro audio a little better because it has a volume control on the left headphone and a mic mute on/off button on the right headphone. The Cosmos flip up screen is nice but it's not too hard to shift the Pro screen to your forehead when need be or just shift it up a little so you can peak at your keyboard. I use glasses (~140x40mm) and both fit within the headsets no problem. The Vive Pro's oled screens are much nicer in darkish games (better blacks/contrast) than the Cosmos lcd screens. I recently bought (~$US70) the latest Etsy Gear VR lens mod (google etsy dot com) and this has significantly improved my Pro's clarity and enlarged its sweet spot. I highly recommend these for Vive Pro users. I also bought these for my Cosmos but I did not think that the difference was all that significant (although is still was an improvement). In both cases I have not seen any distortion, nor do I get any eyestrain. The Cosmos stock inside-out controllers are better than the Vive wands but if you already have Index controllers those are probably the best out there right now. Unfortunately Valve does not currently ship any Index products to Australia yet but these controllers are def on my radar. So, I would say that the Vive Pro (w/lens mod) would be best for you right now. Hope this helps.
  24. I hope you're right about further inside-out tracking improvements. Vive is going to have a hard time sell 3 out of 4 variants that have inside-out tracking unless they improve it a lot imho. I'm not sure why anyone would buy the Cosmos Elite combo since it seems to be priced the same in the US as the Vive Pro starter kit that also comes with 1.0 base stations/controllers. Actually in Australia Vive pricing seems even more confusing. The early price now shown on the Vive Australia site for the Vive Cosmos Elite combo (all in $aud) is $1,699 while the Vive Pro Starter kit (with the same 1.0 base stations/controllers) is just $1,299, or exactly the same as the current Cosmos kit. The Vive Pro full kit (which I have) w/2.0 base stations/controllers is $1,899. Since getting a Vive Pro w/2.0 base stations/controllers ~3 months ago I now feel a lot less likely to want to buy a SteamVR faceplate module for my Cosmos. Esp. since this module is likely to cost me +aud$300 down under. I would now prefer that Vive just gets our original Cosmos up to Oculus Rift S inside-out tracking standards. Main reasons are because I prefer the Cosmos controllers over the Vive wands (and Index controllers are still not available in Australia) and I prefer the Vive Pro's oled screens in darkish games (better blacks/contrast). Also, I find that my wireless adapter works a little better (more stable video) with my Cosmos (not sure why?).
